Has anyone had any success in playing burned DVD movies (DVD+R) in the stock DVD player. This is in an '03 EXPY.

I'm using DVDShrink to copy movies.

The kids have already scratched up other movies, so I thought this would be a good way to keep the originals in good condition, but still let the kids have their movies.

However, I get "Bad Disc" when I play the burned movies.

Any suggestions....

Keydo,

Save your money for the new DVD 9 format. These burners will burn a complete "backup" copy on one disc utilizing the Double layer format that is used for authentic DVD's you buy at stores. Plus it will burn 9 Gigs of info vs. the 4.7 that is avaialbe now. Simply put...it is an authentic copy of the disc. They will play in any DVD player.

I do this all the time, but I found that specific manufacturers blank DVDs work better than others... Also, the player doesn't like DVD+Rs as much as DVD-Rs... the DVD-R format is slightly "more" compatable than the +R format... and forget +RW and -RW...

Even then, occasionally it gives the same error (like once every coule weeks... with the 2-year-old in the back, the player is always on...)

Cheapest discs that work for me are Starlogic 1X DVD-Rs...

Thanks. I'll try the DVD-R formats. Interesting that the player likes the older DVD-R format than the newer DVD+R format, but oh well. The DVD-R formats are cheaper than DVD+R so that's a good thing.

Partial success with the DVD-R format.

I burned one movie on a DVD-R and this is what happened.

The ignition is set to ON, but I did not start the engine.

Insert DVD-R into player.
RESULT: BAD DISC

Eject and re-insert DVD-R into player.
RESULT: Movie begins to play.

When I open the door, the dome light comes on at the movie pauses as a still image and then begins to play. Close the door and the same thing happens. It appears the fluctuation in electrical current was causing this.

Continue to play movie.
RESULT: 3 minutes into the movie and lots of pixelation begin to show up and eventually the DVD player says BAD DISC.

So, at least I was able to get something to play. Interestingly enough, the DVD-R format will not play on my home DVD Player, yet a burned DVD+R will (same movie, same burning software).

The manufacturer of the DVD-R were Maxell.

Just bought an '03 Expedition and have been struggling with this issue myself, so thought I'd pass along my success...

At first I tried the DVD-R format, and did not have any luck... used both HP and a Japanese brand, and these were not cheap discs...

On a whim, I purchased some Memorex Dual Layer DVD+R discs, labeled as 8x, 8.5GB and 240min. Using the free version off the web of ConvertXtoDVD4, and burning at 4x speed, I was able to successfully burn several kids movies which play perfectly in the stock DVD player in my vehicle...

I know the consensus I've read is that DVD-R is the way to go, but this definitely did not work for me no matter what disc/burning configurations I attempted...

In any case, hope this helps...
