No. You are on an Internet forum and since the vast majority of people never once visit one you are not seeing a true sampling set. Quite a few people who do find a forum do it because they have a problem leading to more issues reported as a percentage than actual field numbers.
Yeah, I get what you’re saying but I’m not so sure that’s true.

I came to this forum immediately after buying my 2018 Platinum to see what mods other owners had done. So I could learn from other experiences. I bought mine with the intention of making it into a more capable off-road machine. (Note my profile pic off-roading in Moab)

Forums do attract owners that have problems with their vehicles—looking for solutions
BUT , I think forums attract far more enthusiasts wanting to share their personal experiences with other enthusiasts. And learn from each other. Which is why I joined this forum years ago.

My Expy has just turned out to have more problems than most, and I think it’s good to share those experiences with others, also. But that all came after the fact.

And as you will read in many of my posts. I am still impressed with this awesome machine. Luxurious, serene cruising machine that seats 7, gets 20 mpg, has 400hp, tows 9200 lbs, and does a fair job in some pretty technical off-roading. I mean, dayum.

I just wish it was a better built machine, and didn’t have the major drivetrain flaws that it does. I could live with some minor gripes. But the engine and transmission have to be durable.

Just out of curiosity, why would anyone want to hardwire the back seat entertainment to the main vehicle audio? I want to hear my music, not the kid's movies as I drive. Rear seat entertainment should be limited to the rear seat passengers and not create a distraction for the driver.
One road trip in my Expy will CHANGE YOUR MIND.

Picture this: it’s pitch black outside as you sail through the night with a car full of kids on the way to Orlando for an awesome Disney trip.

You dial up the ambient lighting to a cool red or purple glow throughout your movie theatre-spaceship, dim the dash lights, slide the sky-roof screen back so the kids can see the stars…. And then?….

Star Wars: The Last Jedi leaps onto all three screens as the bazillion speaker surround sound system engulfs the happy crew of your spaceship!
Blaster fire and saber battles sound jaw-dropping, and perfectly synchronized with the video since you feed it an HDMI input.

It is a GAME changer.

And speaking of games….
On the way to your tailgating spot at your alma mater? Might as well fill the car with ESPN Gameday on the road trip there? Amiright?

Hardwired audio, and the ability to play the same media on all three screens while cruising? Yeah. You need it.

Struts would not be a big deal but I definitely would take a hard look and feel to see how they are especially if they are CCD struts as I imagine those are not cheap. Those fluids are a 150K scheduled item are they not?

If you wait until 150k miles to change out fluids like, it may take a giant crap like other member said before you even reach 150k miles lol. Most of owners would change out those fluids at 60k. Hard core owners would change them at 30k miles. Maintenance is crucial for these trucks. Check out the FordTechMakuloco on Youtube.

Yes, of course enthusiasts make up a large portion of forums, that's why I am here. But it is still a rounding error of the total of all vehicles out there.

I understand. For peace of mind I probably will go ahead and do all those fluids if we purchase. It's at a GMC/Buick lot, but I thought about trying to negotiate to have them at least do a transmission service (pan drop and filter fluid change) as well as brake fluid flush service.

I might even try and squeeze in a transfer case service as well as front and rear diff fluid change. (If I cannot work those in a deal I can always DIY that with spark plug swap I would plan on as well.)

From reading the forums and FordTechMakuloco videos, I need to schedule to have my 102K mile F150 in for transmission, transfer case, front/rear diff fluid service as well.

Well I ended up pulling the trigger. I worked the maintenance in the deal so the transmission service, brake line flush, check for any coolant or fluid leak, etc will be done on Monday. The passenger side screen for the RSE would not turn on so they are fixing that. The fuel doors is off the hinge and is on the list and finally they are supposed to "detail" it. The truck is so dusty, underneath and inside that back cargo area. (It is as if someone drove down a dirt road with the back gate open.) So hopefully they get it cleaned up good and not just armor all wipe to the trim. I will end up getting the clay bar and paint sealant out in the next month or so and get it finished up well.

From everything I have read on here so far, I negotiated the deal to feel comfortable about working in an AUL 48m/48,000 mile warranty. I sleep a little better at night knowing the engine/turbo, transmission/transfer case, drive axle, etc is covered passed 130k miles.

Ultimately, my wife loves it so far so that is what matters.

I'm just going to leave this here...

Since my warranty ran out in 2020, the amount of maintenance required has cost $13,300 (CDN $) to date. I have just a few ticks over 155,500 km or 96,600 miles.

It's a 2018 Expy (shorty) Plati.

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you end up paying for your Expedition?

It's a long list tbh. Here are a few:

- Rear Main Seal (huge job)
- Front and Rear differential seals leaking
- RF axle seal leaking
- Rear pinion seal fixed 3 times
- Front Cam washer leaking
- Reseal front engine cover (huge job)
- Cam phasers (replaced at least 3 times)
- Front brake calliper pin seized
- Rear brakes seized (both) and locked up. Replaced rear brake actuator then had to replace ABS module
- Intermittent Airbag light
- Water pump leaking, changed
- Replaced rear glass due to wire hanging syndrome
- Replaced both rear CCD shocks due to leaking

Of course, in that cost I mentioned there is routine dealer maintenance. Lots of seal problems, so I wonder if this thing got a bad batch from the factory? But if this wasn't a company truck, it would have been sent to the crusher a long time ago. Don't get me wrong, I do like the vehicle. I chalk it up to the 2018 new model gremlins (there are a lot).
