Just finished doing a quick detail on the wife’s 2019 Expedition MAX. Since new I sealed the paint with Meguiars Fast Finish. Hand wash only, never been thru an automatic car wash. 2x’s per year I do a strip wash with Purple Power to take off all waxes and deep down grime, clay, and reapply the sealer. Meguiars Spray Wax 2xs per month. Interior is cleaned by Meguiars interior cleaner as well as Meguiars Ultimate Leather. I have to say that the MAXs paint looks great after 3years, 34k miles, and daily use with 5 kids. I’m very happy with how she’s held up. Premium gas only and never had the worthless start/stop on.

The MAX is a beast, totes around all 7 of us and doesn’t even break a sweat. 80mph up a grade, no problems, with plenty of power and maneuverability.

BUT…the rear end knock is creeping back…heard it again this weekend. It’s been in the shop 2xs before to get this issue fixed and it’s back. There was a TSB on it. Seems like every 10k to 12k miles it needs the rear end greased?! On top of that, needed new shocks at 20k miles. It was all covered but still, warranty is out now

It’s getting to be a bit annoying at this point coming from Toyota guy that’s has 225k on another vehicle with no issues whatsoever.

Looks absolutely new. I clay bar and use Mequires Ultimate polish followed by Mequires Ultimate wax every 3 month. I have not tried the Mequires leather cleaner and conditioner but believe I’m going to give it a try. Cool to see I’m not the only one who enjoys spends time on keeping their ride looking good.

If you have the shocks replaced under warranty, then they just put the same (bad) shocks on. Save yourself some headache and get some aftermarket shocks (e.g. bilstein 5100).

What is the ‘rear end knock’ that needs grease?

While slowing down coasting from 20 mph to 15mph there’s a distinct thump or knock from the rear end and you feel it as well. At first it happens occasionally but then gets worse to where it happens every time. There’s a TSB on it but we’ve had it in 2xs as it comes back.

Yeah, it does take some time but I do like it…plus it’s a good calorie burn!

I’m not burning any calories being I use a Mequires MT 300 dual action polisher. Hope you get the knock fixed permanently. The rear grease has me puzzle.

FordTechMakuloco mentions a rear end clunk that is caused by the retaining bracket of the differential pumpkin getting worn. I bet your noise is caused by this.

Not sure, we bought it brand new and it started happening about 15k, then again at 25k. Hard to believe that part was designed to wear out every 10kmi. Both times the fix was greasing it. There’s a TSB I attached.

Haha well you’re burning calories just not as much however I’ve been wanting to get that DA polisher! I hope so as well. I think the MAX is a beast however being a longtime Toyota guy with 230kmi on another car with nothing but routine maintenance, it’s a bit annoying having some of these issues come up such as Rear end, new shocks, interior pieces breaking eg cup holders. I attached the TSB btw
