The air conditioning in my 2017 XLT stinks, especially at first just after its been turned on. I wondered if it was the cabin filter, but apparently there isn't one on my model year?

Any other ideas? Is my AC drain plugged with mold? Where do I find that and how can I clean it?

I am also having problems with my 2017 XLT. The Air Conditioning is very weak. Sometimes it seems okay, other times its not even blowing cold air. Can you advise what posts this was discussed on? I cant find anything under 3rd Gen 2015 to 2017 AC problems

Is the issue a lack of cold air during a/c operation - or a lack of air volume (or both)? Front or rear blowers - or both?

In the USA, Ford issued a safety recall to replace the front HVAC blower motor assembly on the 2015 - 2017 models due to the potential for fire. You may want to check in Canada and see if your vehicle is subject to the recall there?

The Air is not cold consistantly. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isnt. Volume is fine. this is for the front and back.

I am aware of the recall, But i did not think that would affect the temperature of the air being blown

From afar - it sounds as though you may have a small leak (low on refrigerant) or the radiator cooling fans are not operating properly (second one turning on with the a/c and operating faster with higher temperatures).

If the a/c output is very cool while driving, but warms when slowing or stopping in traffic - paragraph one is probably the answer.

There are several knowledgeable a/c people on this forum, and hopefully one or more will joint the thread?

IIRC the blower motor recall is about the wiring overheating and possible burning. Not about how much air the fan can move.

I have my truck in for AC service as it is completely non-functional this year. It was gradually getting weaker with each year. This year, it is totally gone. I too, suspect a small leak somewhere. Hoping it isn't the evaporator as it sits behind the dash.

Note both radiator fans do kick in and blow strong. Sounds like a 747 preparing to take off when they get going.

It's possible that without a cabin air filter you've got some crud on your evap coil. If any of that stuff is organic, bacteria and nature will take it from there. I would try to get a scope into the coil to look at it.
Drain issues usually result in a wet floorboard on most vehicles.
If I understand your post correctly the only issue is smell, performance is fine?

What is the odor? If it’s a moldy funk, check the inlet for rotting debris. Then put the fan on high and spray a can of Lysol into the air inlet. That will pull in the disinfectant deep into the ducting to kill whatever is stinking up cabin.
