Hi all - I just purchased a 2024 Expedition King Ranch and had a question about the hands free power liftgate. I cannot seem to activate it with my foot. Does anyone else have this model with the tow package that is having difficulty activating the hatch. It works fine with the key fob and the button inside the vehicle. Thanks!

Be thankful. Many of us have had to disable that thing. It doesn't open when you want it to, and it opens when you don't want it to.
Personally I think it is just another useless feature that adds more circuit boards, wires and weight. Same as that self park feature and some others that are useless and just makes the car / truck more expensive and harder to fix or more to fix that cost extra $$$.

Hands free anything
Heated/cooled seats
Heated steering wheel
Auto stop/start
Powered folding 2nd/3rd row seats
Auto High Beams
Auto/Rain sensing windshield wipers
Heads Up Displays ( I drove a 2024 Escape Platinum and the HUD was dumb and unnecessary)

All Features I can do without to save a buck

I'm glad a lot of that silliness was disconnected on my '23. All trying to keep up with the neighbors no matter how stupid! The auto start/stop is the next dumbest thing that needs to go. But hey, the heated/cooled seats and steering wheel is tops on my list!! I really do like the auto wipers as well.

i like the auto wipers when its intermittently misty

i love the ventilated seats in hot weather, and the heated seats in cold weather. the power folding 2nd and 3rd row is awesome when you've got a lot of stuff to load in the back, folding those 3rd row seats manually would require a lot of gymnastics. my 3rd row is normally folded cuz I rarely have passengers beyond my wife.

the auto high beams are awesome on my wife's Mercedes but annoying on the Expedition, so I leave them disabled.

I extensively use Android Auto, anything to make cellphone usage hands free is a win. <push the Voice button on the steering wheel> "Drive to Companion Bakery".... <push teh voice button> "Spotify, Play Samantha Fish..."

Adaptive cruise control is awesome. my wife's car is missing that feature (it was an option she didn't get).

The cruise control is great once one gets used to it. It has three distance settings and depending on the road and speed, I find this feature useful. The bright dimmer is useful too since I live in a relatively unpopulated area with fewer cars than a metro area. By and large, many of the features introduced in the Gen 4s that proved to be useless were discontinued by the time I got in with my '23.

I never used the hands free gate until I helped my daughter move out her apartment. Definitely nice to have when your hands are full. That being said, there is way too much unnecessary technology being added every year to all vehicles.
This technology is somewhat unstable in a controlled environment, and when you add heat, freezing temps, rain, snow and corrosion to it, there are bound to be problems.

The auto stop/start feature is useless on a large suv or truck. It's just something the manufacturer installed to meet CAFE requirements. My 19 Expedition had the hands free rear hatch feature. I couldn't figure out where to kick or swipe my foot. But as soon as I put on bike rack, it worked like a champ.

It only works on either side of the license plate. If you kick your foot right in the middle, it won’t see you.

This.

Disabling the feature on my '18 limited was one of the best "mod's" I've made.

The lift gate always tried to kill me when hooking up (or unhooking) trailers.

My 18 expedition lift gate tried to kill me on too many occasions, it was always when it was raining which ironically was when it would have been really helpful, so when I got my 23 expedition and found out that they deleted that feature, I was actually happy. I asked the dealer on the 18 to look at it numerous times during service visits and they always said that it was working "fine". Not sure what happened to these dealers near me but I've almost given up on them for anything other than warranty and recall work.
Your really not missing anything without it.

It worked one month in my 2020. Guy at ford said they don’t work very well. Everyone I know that has it says the same thing -a waste of money.

As for me, I really like the heated/cooled seats and heated steering wheel. I also like the power folding 2nd and 3rd row seats. I HATE the auto stop/start. Fortunately I discovered that auto stop/start can easily be disabled by disconnecting the connector from that little sensor box on my battery. Works great!. I can re-connect anytime I want. I also really enjoy the adaptive cruise control. I wish my wife's car had it.
