Anyone install after market grill guards?

though about it but decided to keep it as original as possible. Although, I have seen some really cool ones.

I have the WAAG one piece grill guard in powercoat black finish. It was not to bad of an install, with no holes to drill. The worst part was getting the front bumper bolted back in place and centering the bumper and the bar. It mounted with 2 brackets throught the air dam and 2 that slip between the bumper and grill. Easy install. 2+ years in the weather and it still looks great. I have one complaint though. The light mounting holes are right above the bumper and the mounting bar is a "C" channel. This makes tightening the lights a real joy. This is minor, but still a complaint.

I have a Westin grill guard with Kc lights mounted, all in black. Looks tuff!

A word of caution about grill guards. My boss' daughter was driving his escalade. To make a long story short, she got rear ended by her best friend who was driving dad's Expedition with a big brush guard on the front. Damage to the escalade was minimal..just some cosmetic very little structural. Damage to the Expy? Well, on impact the brush guard swung down and crushed the whole facia, radiator, hood, lights etc of the expedition. The body shop that did the repairs to the Expy said that most of the damage was indeed from the guard and not the impact. This was when I was looking for a brush guard and it made me decide against it.

Grill guards may prevent your airbag from deploying. Although in minor accidents this might be ok in a larger one you may need it. The guard will (if frame mounted) direct the energy up,back, and down. So what would have been an impact directly to the sensor is now a direct impact to the area described by 2000Blk&Slvr. Since the airbag sensor is lower on the vehicle it would not be tripped.

I would personally stay away from grill guards unless you plan on moving to the jungle...I would rather be safe than look cool..........

Air bag sensors are velocity sensors. They are NOT tripped by contact!

If anything, they can make the airbags go off sooner since the impact force will not be absorbed by the guard.

Ohhhhhh I see said the blind man............................I was under the impression that the energy from the crash being diverted to a higher plane would have an adverse effect on the sensor. But I understand what you are saying and thanks for the education....

I like my westin one piece grille gaurd. used it to push a couple of cars (one was my friends who died out and one was a guy who decided to park directly ontop of the front bumper) I must say i love the damage it did to the other car

I like mine just got a cheap stainless steel one off ebay no drilling needed to mount it as it bolts to the factory tow hook location (moved them to the rear) and put some nasty KC's on it. Looks pretty sweet but as everyone else has said it doesn't make your rig indestructible the only time I've used it thus far was off roading it protected the front of my bumper from getting ripped off but overall I'd say it was a good buy for the price I paid.

HAHA great pic Panda. I saw a sweet brush guard on an old 78 Ford the other day. The cross bars were old camshafts out of some big straight six diesels. Wish I could have gotten a picture of it
