    Polish or replace headlight?

REPLACE. they are just going to dull again in a month, every month. Carid.com has loads of choices. i do not recommend going back with the OEM style, as the light directing properties are inferior to some of the other choices. The 1990s was a bad time for headlights as the DOT made them...

    Transmission or ??

I was convinced that I had a Transmission problem. I am a "car guy", do most of my own repairs, and am confident in my ability to diagnose problems. I thought my tranny was going bad because of shuddering and poor shifting performance, but it turned out to be an engine misfire from several bad...

    Cam phaser?

hmmm, whats causing a hot idle clicking? ill check my engine code to be sure this is not a engine swapped vehicle. I got the engine type from the VIN.

    Cam phaser?

I have a 5.4L 2V with 245,000miles. Recently I noticed a mild ticking sound at hot idle. Seems to run fine. I have seen a lot of interwebz chatter about cam phaser locking pin failure in 3V engines. Did the 2V suffer this also? 10w30 motor oil did not solve the issue.

2000 EB to 2017 eco boost - hesitant

I do not have a high mileage ecoboost vehicle. And like you I have a 1986 BMW with 240K miles, and a 1999 Expy with the same mileage. I gave the Expy to my son also. I also "hold" cars, the reliable ones. We are like twins. So I will point out that pretty much everybody builds cars that will...

    Triton V8 or Ecoboost V6?

I did not read all the 6 pages of replies, but I have a point to make about the Triton motor. Your car has the 4.6L. Mine has the 5.4L, but I still feel that it is inadequate for towing. Not enough torque to tow comfortably with the rear diff ratio on my 1999 XLT. I imagine that the 4.6L is...

Oxygen Sensors preventive maintenance - Great Input

do not change unless it throws a code. these components can last 30K miles or 200K. why change it at 29K if it is still functioning? its easy to get to, and not a big deal if it fails. the fix-it-before-it-breaks approach only applies to vital parts that are difficult/expensive to access...

Are these custom or OEM parts??

ok for $275 thats a good truck. you can afford to correct the shadetree mods. I will admit that if that were just a farm truck or beachmobile I could go along with steel bars for suspension components, but for highway speeds I like my vehicle to be in good condition. Congrats on your new old...

Are these custom or OEM parts??

wow! whats the cost for the actual replacement part? $40 with the bushings pre-installed? if he was willing to go through all the time and trouble to cut steel and measure where to drill the holes, why not just put in the right parts to begin with?? Ford F150 = best selling vehicle of all...

    Two cooling questions

    Different years, different problems

Not that it is a huge problem, but one of the weird things about the generation one expeditions was they could shoot the spark plugs out of the engine unexpectedly. It happened so commonly in the motors used in expeditions and Crown Victoria's, etc. that a TSB came out for the problem. You...

What hitches are you using? Anyone using an EL with an EQ/31ft bunkhouse successfully?

No. No. No. Please check your owner's manual. Towing limits vary with year/submodel/engine/rear diff ratio, etc. These sorts of replies are not accurate.

What hitches are you using? Anyone using an EL with an EQ/31ft bunkhouse successfully?

wow it is amazing how some people here don't even know what these devices do, or how they work, yet they are hauling around 35ft trailers. I recommend that anyone who doesnt understand tongue weight or GVW go back to their RV dealers and ask them to set up the trailer properly. Also learn how...
