Ive seen these transmissions go half a million miles on Mercon V fluid. Why do you want to add something? That fluid is designed specifically to work witht he clutch materials in the transmission and torque converter.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
D
Hate to say it, but that doesn't sound good. If the fluid is full then the least it could be in in the valve body. But with the "thump", it's most likely the reverse clutch,.
D
Yes, it is positively compatible. You need to use the range sensor from your vehicle on it. All of the sensors will swap over. 0 concerns on that.
As far as your computer is concerned the transmission is a direct swap.
D
It depends on how broken it is. You can get some really wonky shifting happen when those springs break. So yes, it definitely could be what you would call intermittent.
D
The information for shifting comes from the OSS (output shaft sensor) on the transmission. This sensor is the same either 2wd or 4wd. It's on the side of the transmission case, drivers side rear.
No worries.

Thats just not accurate.
I know for a fact that the aftermarket deep pans use a factory filter. I have one on both my truck and Expy. Had on on my Thunderbird and Mustang too. Been doing it since the 90's when I first got the Bird and had to modify an AOD aluminum pan to fit.
I hang out...
The same site I linked to above has pans as well. Also a nifty braided cooler line setup.
You don't need a special filter for a quality deep pan. They are made with standoffs that hold the factory filter in place. Don't know why he said that.
D
Sensors won't cause it to slip though. If he's truly seeing higher rpm in gear, meaning slippage, then he's got bigger issues.
Cheapest and most straightforward path is to drop the pan and check out the fluid. It likely could use a fluid change anyway. But even if the fluid is new, you can...
That's not good. What's going on is that the computer is seeing the output shaft turn at a speed that isn't correct for the commanded gear. Could be from excessive slippage, an electronic or sensor issue, or it could be from the transmission starting out in the wrong gear.
The 2 sensors on...
Stacked plate is the way to go. On my truck I removed the small stock cooler and installed a 40K cooler to replace it. Couldn't be happier.
The coolers come with some basic mounting hardware, but I went to Menards and bought some inch wide flat aluminum stock and made my own brackets. I also...
