    Electrical Gremlins

In the old Saturn cars, bad grounding is caused by corrosion at the ground points under the hood and rear of the frame. Since it's a 1997, one thing I would do is go through the ground points with some 80 grit sandpaper and remove the corrosion off the ends of the wires, the frame, and the...

No crank, no start, 99 EB 5.4

Thank you for your response. I just recently read about the odometer reading -------- but that wasn't it. I ended up towing it to the shop yesterday morning, and picked it up this morning. It was a bad battery cable with corrosion not visible under the insulation, and a bad starter with a...

No crank, no start, 99 EB 5.4

I have a 1999 EB 5.4 Expedition with a no crank, no start situation. Last Wednesday night after work, it wouldn't start, started perfectly fine when I left for work, no signs of trouble, just didn't start all of a sudden. Tried jumping it, but no dice. Battery was 11.9 volts, and was 5 years...

    Trim panel paint code

Thank you, that gets me close, not expecting a perfect match either.

    2000 Expo engine mount replacement

Check the exhaust heat shields. The rivets dissolve over time and allow the heat shields to rattle. I've driven a small car that this happened to, and I'm pretty sure my Expy is having the same heat shield rattle, at 188K it's time to check them even if you are not in the rust belt.

    Trim panel paint code

1999 Expedition in Toreador Red. My trim panel next to the front wheel fell off, and I'm going to go to the junkyard to get a replacement. I have two questions: 1) Does anybody know the paint code for this color? The Toreador Red color on the body is listed on the sticker, but the trim panel...

P0171 and P0174 From broken PCV elbow

I think I figured out what was causing my P0171 and P0174 system lean codes. Was poking around under the hood and it looks like my PCV elbow disintegrated. Bet I need to check the other end of this also. This is something I’ve been chasing for a while.

Alignment out of specs after 2 days

That is a lot of torque. I know I'm going to redo mine eventually, how do I reach that amount or torque at home with a wrench and pipe extension, or do I just need to find a good shop since it is such a big machine? I've done Saturn crank ends at 160, and that has worked fine, but 250 seems like...

New member, restoring 1999 Expedition, Aiken, SC, USA

Never tried Cerakote, but I've gotta say it it looks great, I checked out their website and it seems like an interesting product. My latest buy is Car Guys plastic restorer, which works really good on some of the plastic trim. Still have not gotten around to detailing my engine bay.

That engine bay looks really nice when detailed. I have to do mine but it's on the long list of things to do. I also have a 99 EB, it's at about 185K right now.

    Rendering of my 1999 Expedition

That looks really nice. I studied media design back in my younger days and it takes talent to get things right.

    Recommendations for parts cleaning products?

I use acetone to get oil films off and leave surfaces prepped for sealants. Also used it to prep the block and head on a couple engines so they are squeaky clean for the head gasket. You can get it by the quart or gallon at a big box store, and I transfer it to a small squirt bottle for normal...

    So! What’s a 2000 Eddie Bauer 4x4 worth in this market? :)

According to Edmunds the value of my 99 EB went up $300 in the six weeks since I last checked it, and I'm at 183K miles.

I usually check Edmunds TMV. You input the information about the vehicle and at the end you have to scroll down the page to see the result. My 99 is worth a little more than it was last Summer when I got it. https://www.edmunds.com/tmv.html

    FL-820 housing change

This is bad news. Less flutes equals less surface area for the metal band style filter wrenches to grab onto, and they already tend to slip off. I'm making a junkyard trip in the spring to see if I can find a filter relocation kit for my '99. I noticed the FL-820S disappear from the shelves of...
