    2017 water pump replacement

Did the water pump on my '16 last fall, my word of advice is to be careful with the plastic turbo tubing when you remove it, I cracked one of mine, it was over $300 for a replacement and I couldn't find one used, so I used two part epoxy to repair it. Also, I did the main serpentine belt while...

    2017 Ford El ticking

That sounds normal to me. I've had my '16 EB Expedition for 3 years and have put 50,000 miles on it (at 105,000 miles now), it's sounded like that since the day I bought it. The HPFP makes some noise as do the injectors. The fuel injectors in direct injected engines are quite loud.

    Exhaust fumes in cabin

These things run quite rich and a little rough on a cold start during the winter, creating rather stinky exhaust, which is easily gets sucked into the hvac vents at the base of the windshield. This has been my experience as well.

Owners of 2015-2017 Models - is yours reliable?

No, my truck doesn't have a limited slip rear diff.

Owners of 2015-2017 Models - is yours reliable?

I use Mobil 1 5w30 full syn for the engine, Mobil 1 full syn gear lube for the differentials, and Motorcraft Mercon LV for the transmission and T case.

    Catch Can!

I'm neither for or against catch cans, but I'm at 102,000 on my 2016 EB Expy without a catch can and no issues to speak of. The truck runs great. I've change the plugs twice, both times the old plugs were clean. I use full synthetic oil, do changes every 5k miles, and only use "top tier"...

    2015 Expedition Engine Rattle

That's outrageous for a water pump.. I just did the pump on my '16, it's external, not internal like most people seem to think. The motorcraft pump was like $80 from Rock Auto and you're replacing most of the coolant anyway since you have to drain the radiator before hand and half the coolant...

    2015 Expedition Engine Rattle

Oh damn, that sure doesn't sound good. What does the oil change history look like? Just curious.

    Another CEL on our 2017...

over 100,000 miles on the original plugs and the dealer didn't recommend replacement? That's pretty odd. These engines are known to eat spark plugs (regardless of what the manual says about 100k spark plug changes). When I changed mine at around 60,000 miles they had pretty large gaps. At...

    code P2112 Expedition 2015

My 2016 just did this a little while ago. I bought a new throttle body from a local parts store for $100, it took 10 minutes to swap them out. It's an easy job if you've worked on cars before. I took the old one apart, the teeth on the gears were fine, the TB and blade were clean, it most...

looking at a 15 EL XLT. engine sounds?

On a used ecoboost I would want to see a maintenance log. When I bought mine with 57,*** miles the vehicle history report showed that it had gotten oil changes every 5,000 miles at the dealership since new. Frequent oil changes (and full synthetic) are imperative to the life expectancy of a...

    The grass isn't always greener

Just a reminder for those of us with direct injected twin turbo charged engines with variable cam timing that the "simpler" v8s have issues too. A friend just got the repair estimate for his one owner 2013 Escalade with a 6.2v8 (98,*** miles) that developed a valve-train tap. $5,800 to replace...

    eco boost swap?

I sure wouldn't want to do it. If it were me I think I'd rather swap it with rebuilt 5.4 (maybe with a few upgrades/goodies on it).

Next up: The water pump has failed

It's done. The water pump itself is simple, those turbo tubes though are a PITA. I cracked the tube that runs between the air box and the driver's side turbo right where the PCV hose from the valve cover connects to it.. I called my local dealer, they located one and had it sent to them, but...

Next up: The water pump has failed

I've done a water pump on a Ford modular v8 before, that was probably the best water pump design ever, one big oring. The water pump on these doesn't look particularly hard or anything, but it's not near as easy as those were.
