What to look for when buying a gen 2 expy

I don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad that this state doesn't have safety inspections! My personal point of view is I'm happy it does not. I guess they could be looked at as a necessary evil. It's hard to describe accurately my personal views on safety. But to sum it up I believe...

What to look for when buying a gen 2 expy

Update on fuel tank/fuel pump R&R. It was a PITA, but it got done. Fired right up and read the level correctly because I reset the float before installing it. The factory had it sitting on the floor of the tank, maybe that's the way it's supposed to be (?) but I'd rather have a larger reserve...

    Expie died

Still wondering what may have happened to my transmission. I live far away from a town with no car trailer so getting to a shop is not likely in the near future. I saw on a different post that nearly the same thing happened to MWzd's expi...

    Fluid leak, now no forward.

I am interested in learning about how this problem turned out. My '04 (5.4) did nearly the same thing, suddenly just started slipping then as I pulled into my driveway it just stopped going forwards but backs up beautifully. I had to go out and get more transportation but the expi is out behind...

    05 Expedition

They should have used 0 or 5 - xx, I'm in northern Iowa and 5 -20 worked in my '04 5.4 just fine until the transmission died. As for the bypass valve... can't add anything for that other than it sounds a little coincidental.

    Bad replacement headlights assembly

NP. I still have the original housings, might some day try the sanding and clear-coating routine. First however I'm going to try a different brands of bulbs. Back in the days of round and square halogen lights I found that Wagner brand bulbs had a much better beam pattern than the others...

    Bad replacement headlights assembly

Good advice but not for this vehicle. The headlights are solid mounted with drop in pins (Peg and tenon style). The only way to accomplish that would be to oblong the pins holes.

    Bad replacement headlights assembly

I recently bought some TYC replacements for a non Ford vehicle, CAPA certified, the beam patterns are horrible! If the lights had a horizontal adjustment they would be much better but they don't. What brilliant engineer thought a vehicle only needed vertical headlight adjustments? SMFH!

Dial Shifter - Let Me Vent!

Button shifting has been around a long, long time. The difference is the first ones were still manual and used a button to move the linkage.

    Expie died

2004 Expedition XLT 4x4 with advancetrac. Well folks it's been awhile since I've checked in, mostly because the Expy died an unexpected death. It's legs just quit working one day with zero indications that there was a problem. No ambition to move forwards anymore. Goes backwards like it's a...

What to look for when buying a gen 2 expy

Better late than never I guess... seriously late really. I gave up on the idea of changing the plugs myself and had a shop do them. Serious sticker shock! Just shy of $500. I hung around the shop and watched and saw the problems he had. It took him nearly five hours. Single piece plugs as...

    Rear brake/hub issue

What you describe with your parking brake is why I left all the guts out the last time I put new rotors on. What you can do is harder to accomplish but works very well in most cases. Just add in a line lock. It's not cheap or easy but it uses the caliper as the brake. Assuming you can find a...

No rush for this, just wondering out loud

Thanks everyone for all the advice. But this old gal has too many miles to do anything drastic to it. Both front body mounts are rusted pretty bad, 230,000 on meter, a quart of oil every 1500 miles, ,,,,it's just not worth it. Besides, I'm too old to play like that anymore. Not because i don't...

No rush for this, just wondering out loud

I might try that. Totally agree with the turning across traffic part and losing power...who would think that's a good thing? Engineers sometimes don't really think things 'as through' as they think they do. Yesterday I went around the loop in my drive and before I got to it I switched off...

No rush for this, just wondering out loud

I read that too, it didn't seem to work, but the truck is 16 years old or older. I know I don't work the way I did 16 years ago....
