    Do the 4-hi,4-lo lights come on? I know you said you checked the fuses,but when mine did this it was a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment....don't remember the number,ill check tomarrow....

    definately check the battery,but sounds like a bad ground to me....and if it still takes a hundred times to get it to fire,maybe a bad connection in the steering colum?...idk just a thought...

    something i was tossing around was wiring a 30amp toggle switch into the fuse....that would still kill the awd,but allow me to turn it back on with the switch.....idk..just a thought.

    lol...grand rapids,not to far from me at all.....as far as this "brown wire",i dont seem to have one...i got 4 wires coming off the switch...from left to right they are "light bue with red stripe-blue-dark blue-and black.....so any ideas anyone?

    ok...well i pulled the fuse,and yes,it does disengage the awd....but also the 4hi and 4lo...so today i am gonna try to pull the wire....hopefully all goes well...lol...and where in the midwest were you from?...im in toledo,oh. right on the mich. border...so a lil rain,snow,sleet,hail...hell even...

    hey all,never asked for help,but got quote a rescue going on here....did the tie rod ends,idler arm,pitman arm...now its time for front bearings....any clues?tips?tricks?...never done them b4 but really handy with a wrench....thanks in advance

    you said you checked all the fuses?...are you sure all fuses in engine compartment are present?....look for fuse 108 and 104

    sorry for stepping in,i feel a little lost in this subject...but wouldnt removing the fuse have the same effect,without any cutting of wires?

    unsure,my awd was sticking and in constant 4hi...so i pulled the fuse to disable it,just a band-aide for now till i can determine the proper cause....but wow,a whole lot more power....i guess for now,if i need 4wd,i put the fuse back in.....(or wire a 30amp kill switch)......

    Awd question

    sounds like your 4wd is engaged....i beleive a good test is to go to the fuse panel under the hood,pull fuse 104 and try it then,fuse 104 is supposed to control the awd motor on the front diff. hope this helps or at least leads you in the right direction

    i got a 99 expy awd,pulled fuse 104 in the engine compartment,disables the awd feature without any permanent modifications.
