can the front ds be removed from a 4x4, and then drive the truck like a RWD? Would that cause damage to any of the other driveline components. will it stress out the transfer case?

in my opinion it's possible to do that.
As long as you keep the gear at 2wd.
Here at Curacao the do nothing but that to the suzuki 4wd samurai and jimmy they use as rentals cause most of the tourists can't drive 4wd.

When drivin in 2wd the front axle isn't working so no problem.

good luck

I did this on my 99EB AWD. No problems but I did not see much if any MPG improvement. Be sure to check the opening on the differential and try to "cap it" if possible...to keep any debris out

unsure,my awd was sticking and in constant 4hi...so i pulled the fuse to disable it,just a band-aide for now till i can determine the proper cause....but wow,a whole lot more power....i guess for now,if i need 4wd,i put the fuse back in.....(or wire a 30amp kill switch)......

I am currently running my 04 expy on 2H right now with no front shaft. (Got it checked to see if it was balanced, and have not found time to re-install).

However!!! i am finding that the ride is much quieter and smoother now :)
