For the first time in my life I have the need for an SUV. This is my first, as well as my first Ford.
I found a great deal for this '03 Expedition and fell in love with it.
It has 162K miles on it, but the body is in good shape. Getting it home I narrowly avoided a speeding ticket because it rides so high and smoothly that I didn't realize how fast I was going.
I had to clean 9 years of grime from the interior, even shampoo the ceiling from front to back. Then I had to get it in the shop for a good look-over and some maintenance that probably needed to be done.
After 10 days in the shop, this was done:
Trans svc.
Oil change
tune up, with new plugs and PCV
--someone had done some oddball job with the PCV and had it sitting off to the side, not even being used. They had rigged some thing with putty.
new fuel filter
radiator flush
rear window striker for the wiper had rusted to bits and had to be replaced
rear window struts were shot and had to be replaced
right front door actuator replaced
tilt steering wheel won't stay up and some bracket had to be adjusted
DPFE hose and sensor had to be replaced
tensioner assy was bad and was about to throw the belt, which was also worn out
Total: $1380

And for anyone that has their interior lights always on, check the brightness knob. If it's turned all the way up until it clicks, they will never go off.
I found that the 2nd row lights had been unplugged.
I also had to replace the driver side window switch and a passenger window switch. Also the headlight knob was broken, which i replaced. I came up with my own replacement strap for the rear hatch. I'm not about to spend $50 for a replacement.
When the rear brakes are next serviced, I'll have to get the parking brake fixed.
Whew!
The only things left are minor.
If you have the mirror switch set for one of the mirrors instead of the middle, it will turn that one mirror down if you put it in reverse. And it won't go back up unless you adjust it yourself. Even with the backup mirror setting turned off. When it is turned on, it turns both mirrors down but doesn't put them back up.
And I don't think the rear sensors are working for backing up.
I'll need new tires in the next few months and considering new wheels. The hub caps are looking bad and replacements are hard to find. The wheels themselves are scraped up some. We'll see how well I can recover from the repair bill.

But everything is really nice now! It runs so smoothly and I'm really enjoying my new ride!

We had a 2nd Gen EB (a 2005 EB) after our 1st Gen 2001. After the 2001, the 05 was a Cadillac. We loved it while we had it. You'll enjoy this one I"m sure

Thanks all for the warm welcome!
I'll certainly be flushing the brake lines in the next service. They are working well right now. Actually I may end up replacing the calipers, as rusted as they are.
I've put in a K&N air filter, and I just found that the power plug for the trailer hitch has one corroded socket. Unless I can figure some way to remove the corrosion from that little socket, I'll end up replacing it. Not a big thing, it's the connection for the left turn signal.
