Reserved a 2015 Expedition through CarMax. Vehicle is transferring from NV to CA. Was supposed to be ready today. I spoke with my sales guy and he said CarMax had to send the vehicle to a Ford service center to reset the monitors - couldn't do a smog check.

Car will be back later today and they will complete the smog check tomorrow.

First off, what are these monitors he is referring to? And, should I be concerned?

Thanks

^^^ I saw that in a google search. Not sure if I should be concerned long-term.

Thanks

Not necessarily. Personally, I'm weary of anything regarding CarMax. They have a rep for selling anything and trying to hide it.

That would be pretty much any dealership and most private party sales.

They probably just have to drop a new Gen2 motor in it and it'll pass smog. How many miles on it ? Did you get a CarFax report on it ? Buy the extended warranty.

Obviously, there's a risk no matter where you buy. CarMax, however, seems to sell an inordinate number of salvage vehicles with washed titles though. Good luck.

Carfax was clean. 98k miles with service history. Did purchase the three year service contract. She drove like a champ coming home. 300 mile trip tomorrow; we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for all the info.

Well, the big thing is you're in CA and the Expy may not be up to CA smog control standards since it's a 49 state vehicle. I'd think CarMax would check that though... and later models like this are usually 50 state anyway. That could be why the monitors needed to be changed though, changes required for CA operation.
