The other day, the metal portion of one of the key / FOBs for our 2011 broke away from the plastic portion when turning it in the ignition. I glued it back together and both the key and FOB are functional but will certainly break again. You can see the crack in the plastic body on the right side of the original key on the left side.

Sooo, I purchased an aftermarket key / fob unit which looks to be correct. I have the instructions to program a new FOB from the owners manual and now need to get the physical key cut.

Do I need to go to a special locksmith to handle this, or do I just get the key physically cut to match one of the existing keys and then proceed with the self programming instructions provided in the owners manual?

The only exception would be if you only owned one key. My new to me 2013 came from dealer with one key. $350 from dealer and $198 from a locksmith to make and activate a second key. I think he used ForScan to do so.

Joe, I realize I require both original keys to do the owners manual listed key programming, which I have. One of the keys had the metal key portion separated from the plastic FOB portion. I glued it back together and is functional. What I was concerned with was if the metal key portion required any programming - other than the programming that takes place when existing and new keys are inserted into the ignition switch and rotated according to the proceedure shown in the owners manual.

No, you can get them cut anywhere that does key cutting. I use the local Home Depot. They do it for free, or just a few dollars. Of the two keys you have pictured I would only use the one on the left. The key on the right has such huge buttons you will constantly be hitting and releasing the rear glass everytime you twist to start the Expy. Or even grabbing it in your pocket you will hit buttons unintentionally. If you have two keys it's very easy to program a new one into the system, either with or without Forscan. If you only had one key you can still do it with Forscan, you just have to delete all keys and start from scratch with whatever keys you want programmed.

The key on the left in the picture is the broken one. The one on the right is the new one which needs to be physically cut and then programmed. When complete, it will be our secondary key.

The key you provided in the link appears to be a better match. I should have posted before purchasing. For the price maybe I'll pick them up as well. Thank you!

Everything worked out well, thank you. BTW, if any door is open (I had the drivers door open) during the process, the lock / unlock / hatch open close programming will complete successfully, but the start function will not. You must have all doors closed in order for the start function programming to complete.
