    Shutter shifting into overdrive

When i first got mine with 127k it was doing it. I did the full fluid change (including torque converter) and problem was solved for about 2500 miles. Once it started up again I tried the friction modifier and again got about 2500 miles before it started to shutter.

    Shutter shifting into overdrive

I used the lube guard friction modifier mentioned earlier in this thread and as I said it did cure the issues for about 2500 miles or so. It just recently started shuttering into OD again and is already doing it with more frequency.

    Tire question

How do you like the Terra Grapplers on the expy? Considering this tire myself.

Getting my exhaust done tomorrow-straight pipes

Agree with the above.. I've not done straight pipes on this truck but in previous vehicles it's always been a mistake. Add any muffler or even a resonator for a much nicer deep tone and keep your torques.

    Fuel pump problem

Just did a fuel pump on mine.. Found a few cheaper options but decided to shell out about $260 for a Motorcraft part. It's a lot to spend on this truck especially with all the other money I've spent but I didn't want to do this job twice and the original pump went over 130k..

    ball joint

No actually, I found the uppers with control arms for a great price and went with that. The rubber bushings on the original control arms were pretty shot so it made sense to do it all. Lowers I just did the ball joints and pressed them in. I did this around the same time as a set of Bilstein...

One small question about fuel mileage

I'm getting 11-12 right now with mixed driving and lots of warm up time. In the summer after a full tune up and fluids change I was able to just barely touch 17 with 55-60 mph driving. 70 on the expressway would result in 15-16mpg.

    Whining noise (speed dependent)

Anyone have any thoughts on why the fluid that came out of the xfer case was black/dark grey? It was dex/merc with only a few thousand miles on it. I did put some lubeguard friction modifier into the transmission to cure a shuddering into OD. That stuff was really dark. Since the xfer case and...

    Shutter shifting into overdrive

Following up on this one again.. Initially had the rumble into OD when I bought the truck with 127k on it. Full fluid (torque converter and pan) change eliminated the issue for 2500 miles or so. When it came back I tried the lubegard product from O'Rileys mentioned earlier and problem was...

    idle surge in drive only

Just to follow up this post, I ended up resolving this. The truck was getting to be tough to start and with the remote starter it would always take 2 cycles. With the key if you cranked it initially it wouldn't want to start but then the next crank it would start right up. I ended up replacing...

    ball joint

I just did all 4 on my 99 with Moog parts with the grease fittings. The lowers are the ones that do most of the work and go bad more often than the uppers. The Moog are very solid pieces and I spent about $120 for all 4.

    1999 Eddie Bauer 4x4

My 99 has no air suspension either.. As for the OP, great looking expy! Can't believe how clean that thing is!

Found a 97 Expy whats your take on this?

A little surprised to hear that.. These are a dime a dozen around here and I've seen the same ones on Craigslist locally since before summer still for sale. I would hold out for a 99 in eddie bauer trim unless you really hate leather.

    interchanging 98 transfer case

I'm in the market for a transfer case for my 99. Does anyone have any experience with replacing the transfer case from a 99-02 to a 97-98 to get the actual 2wd setting? Would it require much other than the 4 position switch and the transfer case? Assuming it would work, would there be any...

    A little help please

Don't have a lot of experience, but I just replaced the shift motor on mine. I would go through the harness with a wiring diagram to make sure you got all the connections in the harness lined up correctly. It seems like it could be related to the speed sensor wiring. Good luck.

    Whining noise (speed dependent)

My buddy put it up in the air last night and we got it up to speed. Noise is definitely coming from the xfer case. One thing to note, when we drained the fluid to put synthetic in a couple days ago, the dex3/merc that came out was solid black after only having been in there for a couple...

    Whining noise (speed dependent)

This is definitely coming from the transfer case. I am in 2wd as I found some snow to test in. Must have something to do with the installation of the motor or the fluid change. Going to make sure fluid is definitely full and prob pull the transfer case motor and see if there is anything...

    Whining noise (speed dependent)

I'm fairly certain that it is, but will go out and move through A4WD, 4HI and 4LO again. It does seem to go into each mode though so I believe it is working. I've also got a switch to disable A4WD and the noise is still present.

    Whining noise (speed dependent)

This weekend I changed my fuel pump (replaced with new motor craft part) and while the tank was down swapped out the transfer case motor. The old motor worked fine but was almost completely rotted away. Also swapped out the transfer case fluid from a cheap ATF to Mobil1 ATF. First trip out and...

    Navigator Keyless Entry

What did you mean by "synced with stock remote"? You're able to somehow work your remote start with the OEM fob? Mine had a remote start installed from a previous owner as well but didn't come with a remote. I ordered a replacement remote and got it programmed and it turned out they didn't...

    Navigator Keyless Entry

Yeah I understand.. If you're able to just order a setup on Amazon for $50-$80 or so and install it yourself it is well worth that cost. If you need to have a shop do the install, it's much less cost effective. I didn't realize the stock fobs would be so cheap either. Great deal on those.

What are the head light and high beam bulb sizes and wattage?

The stock headlamps don't seem to be all that bright to me. Having the fog lights on full time helps a lot but I wouldn't mind upgrading the stock regular beams if I could do so without blinding oncoming drivers or getting police attention. Are there better bulbs that truly make a difference in...

    Navigator Keyless Entry

If you're going to spend the money, you might just consider a remote start w/keyless system. They're not that expensive on amazon and remote start is a nice feature.

    Steering Grind?

I actually just did this mod and have it on a switch in the cabin. It still makes the noise with the truck in "2wd".

    Steering Grind?

I'm getting a light grinding noise, most noticeable when turning the wheel very slightly in either direction while stopped or maneuvering around in parking lots etc. It definitely sounds like a power steering pump, but after replacing that, the noise is identical. I've also done upper control...
