I filled the tank at the end of summer as we use this expedition only in the summer for towing the boat and hauling the family. The battery went bad when I went out to start it yesterday, it was an 09 so no biggie, get new battery in go to start and all it does is crank. I checked the #10 20A fuse and the #301 relay, both are good. Next I made sure the "fuel reset" was reset. I don't hear the pump running at all. Is there a place to check that power is going to the pump without dropping the tank? Or where can I check with out dropping the tank.

Next if the pump is bad, I see pumps on ebay from $20 to $70, when I called the local parts houses nobody was under $90. Does anyone out there have any experience good or bad with fuel pump replacement pumps?

This is my first post here, HELLO! I am into Fords, I have a 70 maverick and a 64 galaxie500XL, just a little background, oh, and I do custom painting on the side, for fun and extra money.

Welcome to board. From what I remember there is a plug next to the frame rail back by the tank or it is toward the rear of the tank that you may be able to check. Seeing that yours is a first gen, if it doesn't have a new pump why not change it anyway.

I've always used Denso pumps without any problems - check Rock Auto. Ebay is a roll of the dice if the seller isn't saying the brand of pump.

The tank isn't hard to drop when empty with the only inconvenience being disconnecting the smaller fuel lines. I barely had enough room to work due to my size/age & no lift. Always change the strainer with pump and might as well the inline fuel filter also.

Most of my costs have been around $110 for the pump and strainer(s).

I had a 77 Maverick in High school.
Poor mans Mustang LOL

Strange that the pump would go out just from sitting unless it was already in bad shape when you last drove it.
If you buy the pump off ebay make sure it has a name brand and a warranty.

Just did a fuel pump on mine.. Found a few cheaper options but decided to shell out about $260 for a Motorcraft part. It's a lot to spend on this truck especially with all the other money I've spent but I didn't want to do this job twice and the original pump went over 130k..

@ BANGEREXPO76 , you are a funny guy , lols I had a '70 with a built 302 , the only races I ever lost was to a built dual 4 barrel Camaro and a built 396 El Camino ...

You do know that there are alot of businesses that sell on Ebay , such as Smmit , Jegs to name a few , the stealership charges way to much , ...

Thank you all guess I'll try and see if there is a plug. I know it would not be bad to change the pump with 180k but It is so full of gas if I could run it awhile it would make it easier on me.
