Bad batteries can kill alternators. Also corrosion on the battery. If the corroson is bad enough it can act like there isn't even a battery in the system and the truck does a heavy draw on the alternator and will shut down. I live in PA but work in Maryland every day. I'm no mechanic but let me...
I have the 4200, it's a depth and hight problem. I had to cut out the divider between the temp controls and the radio. The depth problem is the metal braket at the rear center. Also the thin plastic that slants down must be cut out. Tons of fun but it's worth it, great radio. Good luck and enjoy.
Ok I was wrong 510 not 501

I totally forgot this fix... I need to do it too. Good luck to us all.
I'll have to seach for it but there is a cold solder joint on one of the resistors on the board... resistor 501 keeps popping in my head. Will let you know if I find it.
I know if you do find what caused it a bunch of people on here would like to know. I've seen a few times where guys want to disable the "lights on when door open" condition. Good luck and please share!
Couple sharp blades and the usual tools. You have to cut the divider off between the air controls and the radio viod. Also take out that back metal braket behind the stock radio. Slso trim the plastic trim that ramps down behind and above the void. Good luck.
