Be wary of aluminum lower control arms. We could not get the lower ball joint to separate from the aluminum arm in my folk's 04. We ended up replacing the entire lower control arm on both sides despite having a ball joint press and very big compressor... Otherwise its basically unbolting and...
I have them in my truck. I also get a bit of a rough idle, but that could be from any number of issues with my truck, not necessarily the coils themselves. So far they have survived the coldest winter I've ever been apart of, and the truck still runs pretty smooth.
Accel advertises that...
Probably no more diffcult than recarpeting a room. I can't speak from personal experience, but just seeing pictures of people taking the carpet up to do body lifts, it looks like it just uses the plastic trimming to hold it down in most spots.
Well the idea is to pass emissions... The main problem I see with this is that there are two O2 sensors on each pipe coming from the manifolds. One before each set of cats and one after. You need to keep the two upstream as they help the engine tune the air/fuel mixture. The ones downstream...
Yeah go with the cold mark. That's what we we're taught in auto class and how we measure all of our vehicles. A little overfill will not hurt the engine at all, but a little underfill can, so just go with the cold reading. Transmission fluid is different, we let that warm up and check while...
My folks have an 04 with the same issue. I completely rebuilt the front suspension last summer in that truck and it still clunks. I know your frustration, but unfortunately I have no answers...
If he's your buddy, maybe he will let you mount the fronts before purchasing. That way you can check clearance while turning, and if it doesn't work, he should understand. Of course it all depends how good of a friend he is. If the fronts work, the rears definitely will too.
I want to say...
Wow that is almost the exact description of my dad's 2000 he bought about 12 months ago... If it sounds like a tractor when you start it, it's exhaust. He is missing half of the studs on one side and it sounds like a track car in the winter. The odometer issue occurs in his truck too, and...
Also, I began losing wheel hubs and CV joints around 150k. They are not difficult. Wheel hubs are 3 bolts and they slide right off (after taking off brakes, etc.) and CV axles are just a bunch of twelve point bolts and one small one on the wheel hub end and off they come. Do not be surprised...
Completely understand. I have no kids and am into the expy's more for the truck capabilities that the older ones have over the new ones, but totally get where you are coming from.
I don't think so. I can't speak from personal experience, but it just seems like 05-06 were tough model years for Expy's, just due to the cam phaser issue, and other general things that are common issues with 2nd gens. Wheel hubs have been a pain for those I know with 2nd gens for example. I...
If I am thinking of the right port, it is the one for the PCV valve. If that is missing, you will have a rough idle and a check engine light. Can't say for sure if they sent you the wrong one, but it might be worth a call to the manufacturer of the intake.
I can't see how that is the case. I have experience with two 2nd gens in the family, and 3 1st gens, and the 2nd gens definitely do better in fuel economy than the 1st gens. I think it has much more to do with condition of current parts than overall platform.
Keep an eye on it... Losing a gallon of coolant is not normal. I'm not sure if there was something in the system you previously fixed or not that would have otherwise stopped the coolant leak (too lazy to read the remainder of the thread) but if not, it is all leaking somewhere...
My truck has launched boats every summer since 2001, and the rear axle is fine. I have never met anyone in the land of 10,000 lakes (Minnesota) who has lost a rear axle due to launching a boat. Like Tom said, Ford is just being extra cautious.
I know the fluid in my front diff is factory original. The stuff in back was changed with the rear axle seals. My opinion is, you do it once, may as well do what Ford recommends, even if it is a bit more spendy. +2 on the friction modifier though, not good to try and run without it.
So my folks have an 04 Expy, and recently it started doing an odd thing. With the climate control knob all the way to the red, something in the dash clicks. Not very fast, maybe 1-2 times per second. It sounds like it is coming from the right side, so I am thinking possibly blend door.
The...
I'd have to agree. I just feel that there isn't a lot you can do without sacrificing space. I do not use every inch of space every day, but there have been times where I have had the truck packed full and was kind of wishing for a couple more cubic feet. But then again design is not a...
Not sure if a radiator for a 97-98 would fit a 99-02 but if it would, here is an aluminum one:

I have not seen anything other than a plastic coolant reservoir on any vehicle I have worked on made in the last 15...
Look into the IWE solenoid. Basically it controls the vacuum at the hubs. If no vacuum, the hubs engage and will feel like being in 4x4 despite no drive from the front driveshaft.
Well if it is only 2wd, about the only thing you can do is drive carefully. RWD is definitely the least desirable for winter driving. Best thing you can do is lightly press the brakes and brake early. If you lock up the tires, it is going to want to swing the back end just due to the physics...
