Help!!

Just bought 2003 Expedition. It is not 4x4 but has posi track rear end. It has a lot of push almost dangerously pushing the truck into a spin out on ice. With brakes pushed the rear end spins. How do I fix this . It is not safe. What can I do?

Well if it is only 2wd, about the only thing you can do is drive carefully. RWD is definitely the least desirable for winter driving. Best thing you can do is lightly press the brakes and brake early. If you lock up the tires, it is going to want to swing the back end just due to the physics of there being more braking power in front than in back... Get a good set of M+S rated tires if you don't have them already.

As far as it trying to spin on ice, don't accelerate while cornering, try and let the truck coast. The inertia of the vehicle pushing to the outside of the turn causes RWD to lose traction pretty easily. Best thing you can do is only accelerate when going in straight lines, and to also do so lightly.

um I live in iowa. I live for winter driving :)

Yes... I know all about winter driving but good advice for those who usually end up in the ditch with their big 4x4 s. This issue is something different as in the rear tires are still getting power and over powering the breaks. I did my own research and found the idle air and throttle position sensor were bad. So it was like the gas pedal was constantly being pushed unless in nuetral. Thanks again I'm sure your winter driving tips saved someone's day.

Just a suggestion Had you better explained your problem you would have received a better answer. When I first read your post my advice would have been to avoid driving on ice with a 2WD EXPY. Being your problem had to do with the idle air and throttle position sensor being bad which you didn't fully explain or really didn't know at the time. The advice given was very good it just that you failed to explain that the problem had to do with your idle RPM's being high
