Sprayed the frame with rust inhibitor and then with a few coats of asphalt undercoat. Hope that slows down the damage that road salt does every winter.
I've also sprayed the rims with black truck bed liner on top of the 2year old black Plastidip that was starting to look pretty faded. I like...
Poor man's CAI :)
Cut the silencer off the intake. Used the caps from two vitamin bottles to plug the holes. I already had the Gotts mod and a K&N filter so she's breathing as free (and as loud) as she can now.
I've also changed an idler pulley that blew its bearing. The metal piece that's...
Took it to the shop for an alignment and got back a $1800 quote to replace the upper and lower control arms on both wheels plus an inner tie rod (7h of labor plus parts). This feels waaaay too expensive given the part prices I saw online.
Tried fixing the sunroof. Gave up pretty fast when I realized how much time I'd have to spend removing the headliner to get to the back of the sunroof tracks to replace components. Whoever designed that friggin' track to only be serviceable from there hates people...
So i jammed it shut...
Both times my ABS light went on, it was because of bad wheel bearings. Rear right last summer and front left last month.
One weird thing I noticed both times is that the on-board GPS also went crazy whenever the ABS light was on. Guess it uses the ABS speed sensors.
The ABS light went on, so I wiggled the wheels and found a loose bearing on the front left wheel. "Fun"... a few hundred bucks down the drain next week.
I just installed a push bar too. Loosening those rusted 10 year old frame bolts was a real bitch. One broke and I had to fish a new one in through an access hole far away.
Interested in this as well. Swapped the bags for coils over a year ago, but the compressor and lines are still there. I could use the compressor to slowly fill up my air horns tank, though I'm not sure it's powerful enough to give me the 100 PSI i need.
I'm embarassed to say I don't even know...
Yeah, spraying regular clear coat over plastidip makes it _very_ hard to remove. You can scrape it off bit by bit, but it doesn't peel off like it normally would. That's why many plastidip tutorials out there warn people to not spray regular clear over the dip if they ever want to remove it...
Put new winter tires on yesterday. Just in time for a snow storm we had here in Montreal.
The tires are Cooper Discoverer A/TW ($158 a piece). Pretty satisfied with how they handle in the snow so far.
My running boards were tan and I plastidipped them black (~6 layers). The dip would start scratching and peeling after only a few days of stepping on it. So I took a spray can of clear coat I had in the garage (regular clear coat not the clear plastidip) and sprayed over the plastidip. It's much...
Thanks so much, Mike! I ended up using transmission hose and a bunch of fuel injector clamps to hold it to the steel lines.
Btw, there was very little oil that came out when I cut the lines, so I didn't need to add any. The dipstick is well over the cold fill line.
Hey Mike, quick question: did you have to bleed the air out after having replaced the oil line? I imagine some air gets trapped in the new pipe after you've installed it. Is this a valid concern?
Guys, thank you all so much for the advice. This is great! Thanks for the detailed writeup Mike.
Does a lot of trans oil pour out when you disconnect the lines? I've noticed that mine stops dripping when I stop the engine, so I imagine that when the engine stops the oil settles down somewhere...
Hi guys.
I had originally posted this on the Gen 2 subforum, when I thought it was a power steering leak, but got no reply, so reposting here now that I've discovered it's actually trans fluid.
It's leaking from one of the metal pipes that go under the front end of the truck to the trans...
Hi guys.
Looks like I've got a power steering leak to deal with now.
It's leaking from one of the metal pipes that go across the front of the truck (under the rad) to provide cooling.
Check out the attached pic taken under the truck. The leak comes from the lower pipe at that black...
This is the look i was going for. I don't plan to make it all white. Might add a push bumper. The white is PlastiDip, so I can easily peel it off when I decide to go back to all black.
I was left unsupervised with 6 cans of white plastidip and 3 cans of gloss and did this...
[Note: this is perfectly legal in my area (province of Quebec, Canada), as cop cars don't use this color scheme]
Plastidipped the liftgate after I've sanded down a bunch of those pesky aluminum corrosion bubbles under the paint. At first I tried repainting with actual automotive paint and clear coat, but didn't like the outcome so I decided to go flat black. I may spray some Pastidip glossifier over it...
Strutmasters now sells a small electronic box that gets rid of the message for trucks with the kneel down feature. But it's like $200. A bit too much in my opinion. I just turned the rear switch off and dismiss the message when I start the truck.
