The "PI" motors do not have the coolant temp sensor in the intake manifold. They only have cylinder head temp sensor located directly under the manifold near the thermostat.
It can be seen...
The lower control arms are fairly rust prone. Many members here have replaced them. It would not surprise me if they broke if subjected to extreme conditions. I would be somewhat concerned with the condition of the driveshaft and U-joints among other things if they did let go.
There is one...
Short answer.... yes.
But you will need custom tune along with other modifications to make it work. If you have 2wd I believe the lightning pcm will work but you must verify.
Here's a member that did a lightning conversion with his existing motor for his 2004 expy...
Damn if I can find any of the original articles I have read before... :(
Did find this one which seems bit outdated... at least I think the screw blower info is a little off with the variety of sizes now available.
Roots vs. Centrifugal vs. Screw Type Supercharging : SuperchargersOnline...
Don't get me wrong... I would still much prefer a twin screw as far as making more power but a roots has its advantages. Much cheaper to manufacture, very reliable, excellent throttle response and low end power.
I have seen what I would consider better articles but would have to find them to post link. That article seemed strongly biased as far as anti-roots. But if you go to their website it makes sense to me as they sell a twin screw upgrade.
I had an thought which came up when you realize the...
I have read all the pro's / con's of all the variety of blowers including turbos throughout my years. Also have run a Centi... After running a roots for some time now I have come to the conclusion that the roots blower gets much more negative feedback than it actually deserves primarily due to...
I highly recommend purchasing this book as a reference:
How to Rebuild 4.6-/5.4-Liter Ford Engines: George Reid: 9781613250433: Amazon.com: Books
It spells out the differences between the windsor and romeo engines and how to identify them. It also speaks to the differences between the 6 and 8...
If your asking if it identifies what position it is in, I do not believe so but have not serviced mine before.
I would suggest using the shift motor out of the transfer case you just purchased to see if it works.
If its the resistor that you attach to the IAT sensor or engine temp sensor it does not directly change anything in the pcm other than that sensor reading itself. This in effect causes the pcm to use different tables for timing and fuel. (In theory)
In reality the pcm runs stoich in closed loop...
I doubt it completely free wheels but theoretically you should be able to hold the front driveshaft and still spin the input shaft. This assuming the shift motor does not have it locked in 4wd as it sits.
Edited....
Thought my w.o.t. air fuel ratio had dropped from 11.6 (target) to 11.0 with the new pump.
Then viewed recent video and discovered it was the same.
Hmmm need to tweak my tune.... appears to be running a bit richer than desired in open loop. Safe but leaving some power on the table.
Who knows.... i'm just speculating..
If its working for you at this point, wth... I would leave it on too. :)
The DOHC navigator heads/ motor is a nice upgrade. More than a few "lightning" guys that have done this mod. They typically go the turbo route then as well because they would need...
It's odd that it stopped it from sputtering because you are introducing a vacuum leak. Generally the pcv draws air through the block via the hose on the drivers side valve cover that gets its air from the intake after the meter..... so its 'metered' air its pulling through the pcv valve.
Maybe...
This is how I believe it breaks down by model years (4wd)...
97-98 have center axle disconnect.
99-02 have neither center axle disconnect or IWE's. (No 2wd selection)
03- ? Began using IWE's
Nope... had to pump about 12 gallons out before I dropped the tank completely. Still had a few gallons left but could handle easier.
If I had planned to deal with the pump I would have run it near empty of course but unfortunately the timing wasn't up to me this time. :(
