I'm considering doing a small torsion lift on my expy, but I've read about people having problems with CV boots tearing from the increased angle. How much can I raise the front end before this is a problem? I'm not looking for a huge lift, maybe an inch or two.
Any decent shop should be able to do it for a few hundred bucks. I checked at one shop in my area (just in case mine blows a plug), and they quoted me at 200 to 400, depending on which plug it is, and how hard it is to get to.
These had crappy tires as well (I am in Dallas, maybe it was the same set lol), but I lucked out since I got to re-use my existing tires. I agree that the directional wheels look dated, they just scream 1990's. I was also interested in the FX4 wheels, I think they look good too, and not...
Navigator wheels installed on my 99 EB
So I found a good used set of 1st gen Navigator wheels at a local tire shop today, and since I really don't like the stock wheels (5 hole turbine style), I bought them and had them installed. Since I was going from 17" to 17", I was able to keep my tires...
I have finally traced the source of my oil leak, it's coming from the back of the passenger side valve cover. Has anyone replaced these gaskets before? I have replaced plenty of VC gaskets on other vehicles, but none were this hard to get at all of the bolts. I'm tempted to just pay a shop to do...
Truck is a 99 EB Expedition, 5.4 4x4. I do have fog lights, but both are plugged in and working, so that can't be it. I will get a picture today and update.
While working on my truck today, I noticed something unplugged behind the bumper on the driver side. There's a little white box it appears to plug into, does anyone know what this is?
Does Ford put all of a vehicle's option codes somewhere on the vehicle? I'm used to GM vehicles, they put a sticker in the glove box or center console that has all of the vehicle's RPO codes. It would be nice to know what towing package, rear axle ratio, etc. that the truck is equipped with.
Got the passenger side coils replaced tonight, and plugs 1, 2, and 3. Couldn't get #4 out, I could only get at it with a u-joint and extensions, and the u-joint was at too sharp an angle to work. I'll have to find one of those flexible extension things and try again, but for now the old plug...
Well, I managed to get all four drivers side plugs and coils replaced last night. I also replaced the EGR valve, and cleaned out the throttle body while I was at it. The EGR passage didn't look blocked at all, and the TB wasn't too bad considering that it's got 142K on it. A little spraying with...
Yes, that is the IAC. The valve on the firewall is the EVAP purge solenoid, it releases fuel vapor from the tank into the engine. The port on it is the EVAP test port, and is used to make sure the system holds pressure (no leaks in the vapor line to the tank, and no leaks at gas cap).
I am having pretty much the exact same issue on my 99 EB. Right now I'm leaning towards it being either a faulty coil, plug, or combination of both. I'm going to replace all 8 coils and plugs this evening, I would suggest replacing yours as well.
The radio trim panel is slightly different between 4x4 models. A 97 will have the 2wd mode, the 2000 will not. If they are both 2wd though, then the panel should be the same.
Hmm, I may try cleaning up the TB this weekend as well. Were you getting a check engine light for the P0401 code? I still haven't gotten a check engine light at all, I'm amazed that the engine could nearly stall when taking off and not set a code.
Well, I found something new tonight. I was checking all of the coils for any obvious problems, and found that the #2 coil had the mounting tab broken off. It was just loosely sitting in the plug well, and flopping around. I replaced it with a new one, and the hesitation problem doesn't seem as...
I am now noticing that it does have a stumble under load as well. I took it on the highway, and when trying to accelerate to 60 on the onramp, it felt like it was misfiring, and felt down on power. I'm now leaning towards it being a coil or plug. I bought a new set of Autolite double platinum...
Well, I have driven it to work every day this week, to try and flush out any problems. Unfortunately, I have definitely flushed out a few.
One problem is that it is stumbling/bucking when taking off from a stop. I replaced the IAC, and it made no difference. I am now thinking it may be one of...
I drove it to work again today, and I've noticed that it does seem to run slightly rough at low RPM, not just when taking off. I'm going to replace the EGR, and get a scan tool so I can check for any DTCs. I'm also going to get a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure at the rail. At this...
Well, I've discovered a new problem with my truck. I noticed when driving it today that it will stumble/hesitate when taking off from a stop sign, but only if I come to a stop and immediately try to go. If I wait a second, it takes off just fine. It idles smooth as butter, and the CEL is not on...
