Its tough knowing who you can trust before you hand them your vehicle and a wad of cash. Im sorry to hear this guy might have taken you for a ride, no pun intended. But also, seemingly good parts can fail. Im not covering for the original rebuilder and judging by the fact that hes no longer...
Okay, first things first.
- check the fluid level and smell the fluid (may have a burnt smell)
- next read transmission codes
- finally report back to us
LOL, I would love to, but I dont have the cash for that right now. House buying and all that keeps me from spending money on fun things to drive. Plus I have one, and my wife would freak out if they started multiplying in the driveway, lol.
Does it feel like the trans is slipping or just not shifting right. If its not shifting right, then its possibly electrical. But if it feels like its slipping, I would rebuild it or have it rebuilt. But you need to be sure of what its doing.
I dont know where Afton mt. Is, but I remember a mountain outside of Charlottsville, VA on
I-64 that was a killer! Towed my 26ft camper over that thing twice and it was not fun. I was doing 45mph at the top with it floored. My 4.6L expy would probably handle it better now since I opened up the...
The rebuild kit was sourced from Oregon Performance. The trans guy and coincidentally becom I ng my new best friend, lol. Found a stuck valve in the valve body. He said it wouldnt move at all. Then he hands me the updated 1-2 accumulator piston and 3-4 accumulator piston. Tells me to put it in...
Heres a abbreviated update. Reassembled the transmission and installed it. Its stuck in second gear. Dropped the pan, and checked the wiring harness because thats typical of a electrical problem. Replaced the shift solenoid. Checked the internal wiring harness and it had power. Reassembled what...
Sure do, thats Terry Smith! Says so right next to the video. He posts lots of stuff about programmers and turbo kits. I couldnt introduce you to him personally. Or even tell you if he's on this forum!
Hey I'm just messing around. The video looks great and thats one fast truck! Would be nice to...
Correct me if im wrong. But driveshafts on these trucks should have a weight on them for balancing right? Because mine doesnt, and I have a wicked vibration coming from the back at 45mph.
Here's a link to my rebuild. Its not current to what im doing right now, but itll get you going. Im going to fire it up tonight and see how it turned out. Its not tough to rebuild these transmission. Keep things clean, follow the procedures and it should turn out fine. Remember to put the...
Its better you didnt get it. It will bolt up. But the output shaft is longer and a smaller diameter on the 2wd models. You have to remove all the internals to get to the output shaft. It would be a good time to look at all the clutch packs and internal seals. But not a fun job to do. Everything...
If its rattling around its already broken inside and is just the luck of the draw as to when it clogs something. Aftermarket units are supposed to be just as good if not better than factory. So get it done as soon as its convinient. But the sooner the better.
How much did that run you? Im thinking about adding a second tank for more volume in my set up. Stainless would be nice to have for our nasty winters here.
