Help for those of you with intermittent A/C problems

I tried and its nearly impossible to get a decent picture without first removing the computer from the firewall again. The expansion valve is mounted on the firewall behind the battery, below the computer. It's hidden by the computer's wiring harnesses. The temp sensor is a small 1 inch black...

Help for those of you with intermittent A/C problems

I'm assuming this F150 has a digital climate control and not the standard knobs? I don't have an option for "MAX" on my 03 expedition but I do have the option to recirculate, and another button that says "A/C". Some vehicles will not let you run the fan in recirculate mode unless the a/c...

Help for those of you with intermittent A/C problems

Ok, one last final update: I removed the temperature switch from it's location (mounted on the thermal expansion valve). I left the wiring intact, and tie wrapped the temp sensor to the wire harness near the computer and TXV. NOTE*: The temp switch is NOT the big round screw in sensor on the...

Help for those of you with intermittent A/C problems

Well found the answer quicker than I thought. Looks like the kit is $153!!! That's ridiculous, paying that much money for something that was improperly designed, so poorly designed that they had to create a TSB for it. It just sucks because since it's not a safety issue they're not forced to fix...

Help for those of you with intermittent A/C problems

I've had an ongoing problem with my air conditioning system. It works great, gets ice cold, then suddenly cycles itself off for a minute. This process repeats itself constantly. I thought it was moisture in the system, so did a vacuum and recover the freon, reserviced etc. This seemed to work...

    Windows down using remote?

I had discovered this feature on my 2001 Celica and also on my 350Z, both times the dealer never told me it was supposed to do this. What I did was just simply hold the unlock button, after about 4 seconds the windows start dropping. They continue to drop until you let go of the button. The...

    PCV Valve Question

The original PCV valve is a heated metal push in style valve with a 3/8" hose fitting for the vacuum hose. Why is the replacement valve a screw in style with a 9/16 hose size that's impossible to use? Is there a TSB for a design improvement? Any reason why I can't find an exact same replacement...

    Forward Expansion Valve

Well looks like it's cured and working normal now. I must have had some moisture inside the system and it was all removed during the 30 minute vacuum I had on it yesterday. When I left work I turned the a/c on as usual, the entire ride home from work there was freezing cold air that only...

    Forward Expansion Valve

Glad you got yours figured out. I ordered a new forward expansion valve from ebay, only $15 new. In the mean time I serviced it again, this time left a vacuum on it for 30 minutes like your supposed to before filling with freon. Last time I was impatient and only applied vacuum for 10 minutes...

    Forward Expansion Valve

I have intermittent A/C in the front system and am thinking it's the expansion valve. I fixed the rear system months ago by replacing it's expansion valve. Maybe the front is also broken. Has anyone messed with the front valve? If so, where is it located? Did you take it apart and clean it...

    Gotts Mod

How about the throttle body? Have you tried cleaning the linkage and maybe spray some WD-40 on it? Or possibly try cleaning the idle air control? I think it's one of those two things. The idle air control may be hanging open too much or the throttle body is not returning quickly enough to the...

    Gotts Mod

Did you reset the computer after doing the Gotts Mod? Just unhook the battery for a while. Next time you start it, let it warm up by itself for about 5-10 min. Then drive normal for a few miles. It should reset and relearn the idle settings, and how much IAC is needed when you let off the gas...

Steering is heavy all of the sudden?

Any updates? Is it fixed? Did you check the belt to see if it slips? Isn't there a wire and a sensor mounted on the pump to monitor or control pressure at various speeds?

    headlight polishing/recovery

I have a 3M polishing kit. It works great but lasts only weeks, then fades again. My best luck has been to wet sand and clear coat the headlights. They look almost perfectly new afterwords. Usually the only problem has been if the inside of the light has mold or discoloring. In that case you can...

    Not sure what it is....

The Gotts Mod hasn't affected my miles per gallon at all.The air is the same temp coming into the engine, but it did remove a restriction of air flow before the air box. I noticed a better throttle response for things like passing on the highway. I also noticed you can hear the intake sucking...

    Best programmer for mileage increase

I'm biased toward the SCT Xcal since that's what I have. I don't know much about Edge. What I do know is that with the Xcal you can have custom tunes made for towing, mileage, HP, etc. It's not a generic tune that's been boxed and sold to millions, it's written by whichever local programmer...

    A/C Question

Did you check the fuses, and also the relays? There's usually a 30 amp fuse, and also a relay in an under the hood fuse box. Most of the time the relays are all lined up and the same part number. You can swap two of the relays that are the same part # for troubleshooting.

    Nerf Bars or running boards?

For me, the running boards look nice but have no practical use. I can't seem to step on them when getting out of the truck. It's like they're sucked in too close under the body and my foot slides off the edge of them every time, hurts like hell. It seems to me they're on there for looks and...

    Tow Hooks?

BTW I was at the Ford dealer looking up some paint codes the other day. I asked the parts guy how to get a window sticker. He tried to print one up and it wouldn't work. So he showed me the build sheet for my truck on the computer screen. It said "Less tow hooks", which meant it didn't come with...

    Question about replacing catalytic convertor?

I think the best option is to get a pair of universal stainless steel high flow cats on ebay. They're dirt cheap since so many people are selling them. You can get both of them for about $80. Then have a local shop install them and remove all (4) originals. At least you know both converters are...

    Electric Fans

I second those Mark VIII fans, they are bad ass. They have a full shroud and cools every square inch of the radiator. But they use a lot of power. I would suggest using a variable speed controller with any electric fan. I had one on my explorer. I was using one made by Flex-a-lite. Basically...

    Odd set of problems / 2004 4.6 L

It sounds to me like there's a major power wire that's loose, and when you accelerate the G-force pulls on the wire just enough to break the contact. I had that problem with the coil wire on my Grand Am a looong time ago. I've also heard of some fuse that's known for corroding or melting, I...

    Hesitation

Your the second person this month with that exact problem. The other guy said he replaced the filter and it went away for a few days, then the hesitation returned. He suspected the new filter clogged up. But to me if it's related the the quantity of fuel in the tank, it could be a pump pick up...
