A little low on oil (concerned)

For proper comparison, make sure you always check it with the engine cool and on a level surface and that the dip stick goes all the way in, sometimes mine hangs up on the o-ring. I think it's about a 1/2 quart to get it from the bottom hash marks to the middle so it's not that low. If it still...

    5W-20 vs. 5W-30?

The Ford owners manual and the oil cap indicate using 5W-20 synthetic blend oil in the 5.4 Triton 3V. I was wondering if anyone out there has done any testing with 5W-30 full synthetic? The reason I ask is that Costco regularly offers a $10 off coupon for 6 quarts of Mobil I 5W-30 oil and...

What oil filter do I need?

I went with Fram XG2 which was $9, as I stated before been using Fram for 15 years without issue. We will see how it goes, I'm using Mobil 1 full synthetic as well. Common sense would say the Fram is as good or better as the OEM (which ELVATO says is a Purolator) since Fram's existance and...

What does "Ford Certified" really mean?

I just had my tranny serviced at 48,000. This was it's first service and after my research on the subject opted for the traditional pan drop & filter replacement. The reason I went with this is I wanted the valve body visually inspected and the magnet cleaned. They also remove that funny yellow...

    TPMS sensor question

Anyone know how long the batteries last and whether the batteries are user replaceable? My Ford dealer parts dept. said they did not know how long the batteries last but had no part number for a battery so assumed not replaceable. Mine are the valve stem style off a 2005 Expy.

    Ford Extended Warranty

Sure wish I had the same luck, I had the engine replaced on my Tahoe at 60,000 miles due to it burning a quart every 700 miles, and a tranny blew on a Ford Ranger at 70,000, both covered under the extended warranty. Luck of the draw I suppose. Good luck!

    How to break in

I have rebuilt many racing engines and since they are balanced and built to very high tollerances, we broke them in with hot laps right out of the box. As for production line cars, I would take it easy for the first 3,000 to 5,000 miles making sure to alter your rpm's and use the different...

    WHAAA ^&^%#! brakes

I agree with replacing the calipers vs. rebuild, but from my experience on prior vehicles, make sure you don't go with cheap stuff, get the better quality as it pays off in the end. Brakes are the most important piece of equipment on these heavy SUV's so spend the money wisely.

    Ford Extended Warranty

Guess it depends on the price and how long you plan to own it. Extended warranty value is solely based on your comfort level with the potential of an expensive repair. I run my vehicles into the ground and I always buy the extended warranty on American vehicles (at time of purchase as you can...

What oil filter do I need?

Our local Walmart has Motorcraft but not the FL-820S size. I have used Fram for 15 years and never had one fail, but not saying it can't happen. Anyone know who makes the filters for Ford? I noted that Fram has a new Xtended Guard filter advertised as being designed for use with full...

What oil filter do I need?

I am going to change the engine oil for the first time since I bought my 2005 Expy. The prior owner used synthetic oil so I am going to use it as well, Mobil 1 is what I got. Anyway I am trying to confirm the proper oil filter for the 5.4 engine, the one that is on it is all white and has no...

    Southwest tour.

Just finished up an 8 day 1,500 mile trip with the Expy and camp trailer in tow. This was our first trip in this vehicle since buying it. We visited the Grand Canyon, Antelope Slot Canyon in Page AZ. and finished off with Zion in Utah. For all 1,500 miles the Expy ran perfect and averaged 13...

    409 All Purpose Cleaner

Another vote for Simple Green, use it on everything even as a degreaser at full strength. With 2 teenagers I use a Bissel carpet cleaning canister machine to clean the interior twice a year then treat it with Scotchbrite fabric protector which helps a lot.

    Leaking rear glass

Every time I wash my 05 the rear glass leaks at the top seal. I can't find anything wrong with the seal and it appears to squash up against the glass fairly tight. Any suggestions, is this a common problem?

    Coolant flush

Thought I would share this experience. Since I have a long towing/camping trip to the Grand Canyon coming up quick I opted to have the coolant flushed. The shop I went to had a device that was 2 large clear cylinders one for new coolant and one for the old. They start by filling the new...

    2011 Expedition

Not sure Ford has the money to be developing new engine packages, with GM struggling to stay alive in my opinion Ford really has no American competition for SUV's. But I too would love to see some diesel technology like VW has be available for the Expy. But for now my 2005 is exactly what I need...

I'm with Raptor, why replace the entire harness if it's just one spot damaged. It should be very easy to find the bad wires and repair them.

    Tonado Fuel Saver

Driving habit is a biggie, if I'm jumping from light to light and doing 85 on the freeway mine drops to 12.5 or so, but if I accelerate moderately, coast some whent the light ahead is red and keep it to 70 on the freeway mine jumps up to around 15. If it's all freeway I'm getting around 17.

    Coolant flush

Wow it holds 5 gallons of coolant! I had better check the price of that stuff first. Mine if a yellow gold color, I'm sure Ford has their own coolant as well. Thanks for the info!

    Coolant flush

When should the coolant be flushed and replaced? I just had my transmission done on my 05 and they tried to sell me a coolant flush for $89 saying coolant needs to be replaced at 50,000 miles or 5 years. I don't have the manual but does this sound right? Whether it's neede or not, the price...

    Tonado Fuel Saver

I remember seeing a test of this product on TV, I think it was Two Guy's Garage, anyway it was quite a while back but what I remember it had no positive affect on the engine performance or fuel mileage.
