Any updates? The whine - actually more of a whistle, is still there... nothing seems to be "broken" (i.e. auto climate control works, defroster works, A/C - have not checked - is "cold" here for ATL)...
Since I used to race mustangs, this thread caught my attention. One of the first things we used to do on the "old" Fox bodies was change gears (3.55 or 3.73, maybe even 4.10)... but from an engine standpoint, we would add larger MAF, larger throttle body with spacer, headers, exhaust (i.e...
I thought about it, decided against it, only risking $70 for another alignment if I am wrong. To be honest, I needed to stop working on the truck - it was starting to affect work / life balance. :)
My wife is out of town this week, so I may take out the MAF and clean it, as well as the throttle...
I have this same question... I just had the rear diff fluid changed and the rear end was checked out at the same time, mechanic (2 of them actually) said it looked good. I was wondering if it was a u-joint or something similar.
Thanks. Not looking at changing headers at this time. Was just looking to free up a little exhaust, put in a good tone, and I like the look of dual exhausts... just planning. >:)
Sounds like a good set up - do you mind if I ask the cost? I can figure out the cost of on the Flowmaster (I actually prefer Dynomax Superflo)... but the rest of that is variable.

Tie Rod Replaced
January 16, 2013:
Finally got the front right tie rod in. The truck handles a lot better, and it feels tighter.
I think that wraps up the "I need to do" list, now I can start making the "I want to do" list...

OK - so all that being said, if I use my truck as a daily driver, with some mild off-roading and camping, etc., what sort of set up should to switch to? I would love to get rid of the stock "restrictions", etc.

Rear Brakes Done
January 14, 2013: Got the rear brakes on last night... was my first time doing them, and I guess they work (I got to work this morning)... Truck feels a little better braking, but I did not expect any great differences. IIRC, most of the work is done by the front brakes...
Congrats HighSierra... I have to admit, seeing posts like this give me great hope that I made a good choice when I got my Expy... having to do a few things here and there, but praying that those little "odd and ends" are the norm... nothing major - praying! :)
AC and defrost work fine, auto temp control works fine...
The really odd thing is that it seems to go AWAY when the A/C or defroster turns on... and none of the noise APPEARS to be at the front of the engine, it is only at the passenger firewall (for lack of a better location)...
Thoughts?
I saw a YouTube video of a guy replacing the outer tie rod - took him 3 minutes or so... was crazy. Off to the parts store. I think I am going to put it up on 4 jack stands, replace the rear brake pads and the front tie rod - weather and family permitting...
All,
I have a high pitched whine coming intermittently from the passenger side of the engine, near what appears to the evaporator. The truck is not currently malfunctioning in any way, so it makes it a little harder to troubleshoot. Also, when I turn on the defroster or A/C, the whine...
Thought I would I start a "build" thread - won't really be a build thread, but more of a here is what I did to my "new" truck. There is some duplication, as I sort of posted all over the forum in my initial exuberance... this is the link from the "General Discussion" section...
Changed the oil with new Mobil 1 5w30 High Mileage and Mobil 1 Filter (Autozone had a sale).
Changed the front differential with Royal Purple.
Changed the transfer case fluid.
The truck sounds a lot better... guessing the fluid in the transfer case and front diff had not been changed... EVER...
AMAZING THREAD!
I just joined this week. As many others have said:
1. Thank you for your service.
2. SWEET BUILD and write up. I love the attention to detail.
It really makes me want to do things to my truck, too. I really like the gauges. I may do those first... not really into lifting...
Had the tranny flushed and filled, added ATC Plus (really hoping this fixes / reduces the torque converter shudder)
Changed the rear differential fluid...
Added new wiper blades...
Normal "new to me" stuff...
