Not a man ;-)
White metallic was our original top choice but there aren’t any left in my area with the other options we wanted unless we bumped up another $10K to a Limited or would have dropped the HD Tow.
I’ve been hanging around this forum for a few months now even though we didn’t yet own an Expy. Officially upgraded to an owner yesterday.
We snagged a 2018 in the exact configuration we were wanting.

They are only slightly thicker than a standard belt. I couldn’t imachine they would cause any comfort issues. As mentioned above, if there is any possible chance you’ll have kids age 11 or younger in the car at any point, they do complicate the car seat/booster situation. There are a fair number...
I asked an engineer at Ford this exact question. She was unable to provide me with an answer, which I would assume to mean that the Expedition did not receive the additional reinforcement.
You can also just adjust the positioning of your mirrors to avoid blind spots. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/how-to-adjust-your-mirrors-to-avoid-blind-spots
The small convex stick-on mirrors can be helpful for towing and backing, but the standard position of your regular mirrors should...
LOL, I’m a Child Passenger Safety Technician (aka car seat tech). Car seats and boosters are my jam.
Skipping the top tether on forward-facing seats and missing screws on TurboBoosters are super common errors.
If you ever have questions on car seats, boosters, or anything else related to...
It also looks like you forgot to utilize the top tether on the Cosco Finale for the younger kiddo. This seat requires it to be used at all times in harnessed mode. It is the top strap that comes off the top/back of the car seat, routes over the seat back, and attaches to a small metal bar at the...
I noticed your booster seat is missing its screws. You can call Graco and they will send them to you for free. They are needed for the structural integrity of the seat. They come in a tiny plastic bag when you buy the seat and are super easy to overlook...
Sorry, I wasn’t very clear. What exactly did you do to get the Costco discount? Is this a Canadian-only discount? I’m aware of the Cosco purchasing program but not how the discount on your bill of sale works.
Based on the additional info from the OP, for me it would be a no brainer to just keep the 2014 and invest the extra amount you’d be spending on a new (or increased) car payment to save toward a down payment in a few years. Trading in now to avoid further depreciation almost never makes good...
What makes you want to ditch the 2014? If it runs well and isn’t giving you problems, the 2017 really wouldn’t be much of a change. For me, I couldn’t imagine spending the money to “upgrade” from a 2014 to a 2017 since they are so similar. I’d either keep the 2014 or bump up to the 2018/2019.
I know center seat removal was totally possible with the 3rd generation. Buy yourself some new floorliners meant for the captain’s chair version to cover up the mounting points in the floor and there you go. I’ve been waiting to see if anyone has tried to do it with the 4th gen.
The Expedtion has an extra 5” of front to back space in the 3rd row behind the 2nd row seats compared to the Suburban. That plus the full depth floor makes it SO much more comfortable for adults/teens to sit back there. The Expy is a better people hauler. The Suburban is a better cargo hauler.
If it has the power folding 3rd row, I don’t believe the head restraints are removable. The center one might be if I’m remembering correctly, but the outer ones aren’t. If it is a basic XL/XLT without the power folding 3rd row, those ones are removable.
Oh, I almost forgot the Dodge Durango SRT. It also has head restraints in all seats plus tether anchors for all 2nd/3rd row spots and an impressive 8,700 lb towing capacity.
They definitely aren’t cool but the Nissan NV passenger van as well as the Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter vans have head restraints for all seats and plenty of LATCH positions. Some engine sizes have good towing capacity.
The Sequoia does have head restraints for all 2nd and 3rd row seats. It only has 1 tether anchor in the 3rd row (in the center) so only 1 forward-facing harnessed car seat can go back there, but all of the 2nd row seats have full LATCH lower anchors and tether anchors.
If the 2018 Expedition is too spendy for them and they want alternative vehicle options with head restraints for all seats, they could go with a mid-size 3rd row SUV like the VW Atlas or Honda Pilot. If they need a higher towing capacity, the F-150 has had center head restraints since the 2011...
