    Check the o2 sensors, but also, since it gets a little better, I'm thinking a vacuum leak, too. Check the hose for the pcv valve, if that's good, search toward the rear of the block for another leak. It sounds REAL similar to a problem I had. Without the o2 sensors.

    Probably the heat shield. Just get under there with any kind of pry bar, tin snip, tire iron, etc, and rip it off. I had to remove one of mine that was banging around under there. Did the same thing to my Explorer. Wait till it cools off, climb under and do investigate.

    Hey, ten bucks. Worth a shot. Bad cap will let fumes escape. I drove my old Impala for a week one time without a gas cap, (ohio e-check pressure tested it and forgot to put it back on!), and it was the fastest tank I ever burned.

    I was on 3rd shift when it happened, apparently I must have been half asleep because I don't recall telling the shop to fix it. I found a set on ebay for 200 for BOTH arms. The next day the shop called and said it was ready. They put Ford's on it. 179 i think for each one.
