why is my expy a pain?

My best advice I could give to you would be to decide whether or not it's going to be worth putting the money and the time into it, or would it be easier to just buy another. Add up the prices on the parts you need and how much time you need to repair it. Not having a car payment is nice, but do...

Vaccumm Leak Or Something Else Going On?

round 700. I actually spent about 45 minutes on the phone with the head mechanic going over everything I had already checked. He was stumped too. They ended up smoking the engine to find the leak. The gasket would seal itself back up once the truck warmed up. That was the reason it was so hard...

Vaccumm Leak Or Something Else Going On?

That's a really good link. Hopefully it's an easy fix for ya. In my case, I spent 3 weeks searching for the problem, no dice. Shop had it for 5 days and finally found that the gasket between the intake and the the block had a leak on the back side of the engine.

    digital mileage intermittent and OD

I think almost everyone here has that problem, (slight exaggeration)! It's an expensive fix if you have a shop do it. From what I've read it's a bad solder on the back of the gauge cluster. Couple people have fixed theirs, took quite some time. I decided to just live with it.

Front end noise above 70 mph

    Rear cargo mats/covers

Also google weathertech. They have a ton of mats and weather guards. I got my weather from them. Every set of weather guards you buy from them you get one free replacement.

ABS lihgt on. Possible bad module

Same issue here. Was quoted around 400 bucks for it. Haven't looked for the part myself because the the brakes still work. Just no ABS. I believe they called it an ECHU module.

    Air suspension ride height

I'd like to know the same thing. I've been wondering/asking that since I've owned mine, but I've never found an answer. I'm assuming no.

    Newbie to forum and Expeditions

Welcome to the club! Just a heads up, depending on your mileage, I would recommend checking your ball joints and tie rod ends. Also your trailing arms. These are a couple parts that like to bust on ya. As far as the air ride goes, there are many posts on this website about it. I've never had...

Check your rear lower control arms!

Yeah ford did give it to us on this one. I can't believe they said they never had any complaints on these. I've talked to several mechanics and they all said Expeditions were known to have trailing arm problems. I ran into a super nice elderly lady at the fuel station, she had the same model...

Check your rear lower control arms!

Take a look on ebay. I think I saw a set for 200 or so. Rather than Ford's $179 each.

Last time I saw white smoke pouring from the exhaust I believe it was piston rings.

    Reset The Average Miles?

Disconnect the battery for about 3 beers. Then drive it as you normally would. It will take some time depending on how much you drive it, and your driving habits.

    Anti Lock Brakes

My ABS light has been on for about 5 years, so I have no ABS. The problem is an ECHU unit. If I remember correctly they wanted 400 some dollars for the part. If it is working I would recommend leaving it working. Stopping a tank like ours while going downhill in snow or rain can be quite a...

    Snow?

It was a lot more fun in my explorer, the Expy handles so well it really isn't that much of a blast. I think I only shifted into 4-hi maybe twice last year. And that was just to get out of the driveway cause I never shoveled it!

    Good Winter Tires

I think the vatiivas are what replaced the hakapalita's. I went to get another set of them and I'm almost positive they quit making them. BUT, i wouldn't bet money on it.

    Tranny Fluid Change

Have any of you ever had a friend or relative that had their tranny fluid changed and their tranny blew up several months afterward? I had an Explorer do this to me. Buddy of mine has a 2000 dodge ram with the 360 in it, he's been thru 3 rear ends, and has NEVER changed the transmission fluid...

Check your rear lower control arms!

Yeah I checked mine last valentines day. Pullin out of wally-world, the one snapped and I dropped my drive shaft. The other one was cracked. Happy Valentines Day!

    Rhs/Lhs rear wiew mirror

Read in your owners manual on how to program your keyless entry remote. You can program the drivers seat and the side view mirrors to that specific remote. That way if someone else drives it, all you have to do is hit the unlock or set button and it will return to your configuration. If that...

    Good Winter Tires

Living in Ohio, we get dumped on pretty good. The Nokian Vatiivas's are a great ice and snow tire, I loved mine, but since they were on my Explorer they wouldn't fit on my Expedition. So now my mom has them on her Jimmy, and I have Bridgestone Dueler Revo's. The bridge stone don't handle quite...

    yet another muffler question

Yeah I know, can't really afford 2 rides right now, as much as I'd love to. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll just have to keep searching.
