Police, Fire departments and such do exactly that. mine came without a 3rd row; the removal or install process is not difficult. There are youtube videos that will walk you through it. I got mine after the Fire Department removed their storage solution, but they left the mounting frame in place...
I'm working with an 04 police package Expy XLT 4WD.
I've been looking everywhere, haven't found good answers. I have a bracket to put the spare on the front (police package) grill guard, but I don't like the leverage it has on the mounts. I'm not willing to pay the large costs for the rear...
If you are willing to spend as much as 35K, why not just restore the one you've got? new (crate engine) drive train, etc., won't come close to half that 35K budget.
as I learned researching engines some years ago:
1) the easiest way to gain power is flow more fuel through the engine.
2) running more gas through the motor always lowers fuel mileage.
there's always workarounds, but they tend to be expensive, complicated, etc.
Also, changing gearing does NOT...
FWIW, I gave up on the F150 forum years ago because of the juvenile, "holier than thou" attitudes there. it's extreme off-roading or nothing; less than nothing. if you don't agree with them, you are not worthy of posting on their sacred site.
I have an 04 police package; I've been told the only difference in the SSV Expedition is the wiring... which I do not believe, but that's all I've been able to learn.
I get the same flack from my wife whenever I talk about almost anything I intend for either of our cars. It is humorous because she knows nothing about cars - early in our marriage I had to educate her on the difference between 6 and 8 cylinders...
etc.
I just tell her it was an "information...
"...trade away low end torque for horsepower...."
I've noticed that in all the posts, etc. about upgrades. Given that we are all about a 4WD, ostensibly, off-road, vehicle, why aren't we talking about exactly the opposite; tradeing away horsepower for torque?
Did I miss something?
I rarely get...
If I ever decide to replace the 5.4L 2V engine in my 04 Expy, I would put in a 12V Cummins. If you want a real difference, I don't see any point in messing around with half measures. IMO.
once upon a time, a friend had a 1968 Mustang Mach I with a 302 with the worlds biggest 4 barrel on it. somebody put a high ratio (2.73 or thereabouts) rear in it before he bought it. we were driving from Padre Island to San Antonio. At about 1500 or 1800 rpm and 105-110 mph, we were getting 22...
My police package came with a console replacing the front part of the Ford Console. It's basically a frame with a boat load of cutouts so it can be reconfigured as you please. so i have the aforementioned cavernous console and a neat rack I can put a CB in, a switch panel, etc. even another pocket.
well, my issue is settled, but we still don't know what character in the 8th space dictates whether it's a Romeo, or a Windsor. Is it a secret? will anyone just say what the character should be?
Inquiring minds want to know!
Speaking of life stories, when I started working on cars, we had a forge and had to make many of our own parts on site. My boss started his first shop on the site of an old iron mine, so he had to dig up dirt before he could begin a repair.
If it hadn't been for the 3D modeling software and 3D...
Yes, they are too expensive, but so is every new car these days.
I'm not paying 60k+ for any vehicle. I do not see the increase in value over a used one in good shape for under $10K.
I just found a police package 04 XLT Expy, 4x4, in near show room condition, under 100k miles, for $6200 driven...
