Yeah. I have no doubt a good many Gen4 (and earlier) Expedition and F150 owners have had that same thought. If I experience a repeat of this problem following the repair (and God willing within the 8 year/125000 mile), I'll move on from Ford. An otherwise gorgeous, great riding, and versatile...
A lot of people are asking the same question. How this is NOT showing up in pre-production testing is unbelievable. From most all accounts, the EcoBoost ticky-tick sound was never as bad as the Triton series and the overall case rate of cam phasers/timing chain failure is better on the latest...
Does anyone know if a TSB was ever released 4Q19 as expected? No luck yet getting response back from Ford Customer Service.
My dealership is replacing cam phasers and timing chains. I didn't ask about the VCTs, tensioner, guides, etc.
The D35 switched from the Gen 1 single, long chain, to a two chain design. It would stand to reason that would help the "stretched" chain issue... or has it? Perhaps it's still to early (not enough mileage yet) to know whether the number of timing chain and cam phaser faults is less than the...
If it is not under the 60000 powertrain warranty I sure wouldn't buy it. I purchased my 2018 used late last summer along with a Flood ESP Premium Care, 8 year/120k, extended plan. My engine occasionally made a slight ticking noise at first start-up and it lasted a few seconds at most. It...
Yeah thanks. I too hope you don't experience the issue but being that it's an inherent design flaw, the odds are high all of owners will. I'd love to know the percentage of 3.5L's that have had the issue - no doubt that is highly protected data.
Certainly use and maintenance factor into it...
Do you use petroleum or synthetic oil?
I'm having my cam phasers and timing chain replaced on my 2018 and had meant to ask the Ford dealership which is the best option. With oil changes being quite important on the EcoBoost engines (often cited as a source of problem on cam phasers/timing...
2018 with only 48000 miles and I'm getting cam phasers and timing chain replaced next week . I've had the cold start tickety-tick noise on and off and while on a road trip to ID last week, the engine light came on. This now very long in the tooth issue with stretched timing chains and cam...
Not good and a poor reflection on Ford. On my 2018, I've had to have the passenger side power step repaired and now scheduled to have the can phasers and timing chain replaced next week when parts are in. Only 48k miles... ridiculous. Thank goodness I have the Premium extended warranty. Only...

Don't recall the exact amount but it was the best price I found. I opted for the 8/125K Premium Plan and added the lighting option. Just enter the data into their website and it will generate a cost for each plan/options.
I purchased my 8/125000 warranty thru Flood Ford and have already used it to cover the "skitzo side mirrors" and "erratic passenger side electric running board".
Several prior threads on this subject. They are a great feature but also come with maintenance baggage. They are prone to binding due to inadequate lube and/or grit and grime building up in the hinge points. The drive motors are sensitive to overcurrent, caused by binding/resistance, and set...
My 2018 makes minor ticking noises right after start up, last a few seconds then goes away. From everything I've read, pretty common and associated with the cam phasers. Ford says "it's not a defect but rather a feature"... just kidding, they didn't say that but might as well ;).
$402 out the door for both axles. I thought about asking for the old pads just to check/verify but will give them the benefit of doubt the back were truly at a "red" wear point. Now I don't need to worry about brakes for awhile.
I thought the rotary dial was weird and I didn't really like it. But now I'm use to it and after have a column shift or center console lever, actually finding the change OK.
Hard to say how the previous owner drove. It was a leased unit to a salesperson according to the records. Had to be quite a bit of highway miles, but I know some folks driving/braking traits can be hard on brakes.
Interesting to hear that others are also seeing rear wear faster - may well be...
I have 45000 miles on my 2018 and the rear pads are in the "red", front in "yellow" as noted by service tech during oil change. While I can likely get more mileage out of them, I'm going to go ahead and have them replaced by the Ford dealer here in Yuma.
I'm curious what other 2018 owners...
Today I experienced "Sport Mode"... in a word, WOW! :burnout: I was really amazed in the difference between Normal and Sport; not only acceleration but stiffness in ride. I must say, this functionality is quite fun, but I don't see myself using it very often if ever. I have to imagine that...
I was looking at the backend of an Explorer and then an Edge yesterday at a traffic light and thought, "man those dual exhausts look nice". What was the Expedition Team thinking when they signed off at final design review? :yucky: I fully expected the 2019 model year to get changed...anyone...
