1999 Expedition 5.4 EB crack where liftgate strut connects to body

It appears like at one point something hit it on the side and the area looks pushed in; the circles below the lift attchment point also have cracks starting. Your welder should be able to pull the area flat and weld thec racks or he might want to add a plate, if the existing surface is too...

    Intermittent rough idle

Any work you can do yourself will save you a lot of money, provide you know what you are doing. Have you hooked up a scanner to see if there are any codes? In the US, most auto parts stores will run a scan for free and print a list of condition and solutions if applicable. A scanner is as...

    Weigh Scales

In Kansas, I have taken my Expedition both, by itself and hauling a trailer, and they have weighted the vehicles without any issues. I was able to weigh the front axle, the entire truck, and the rear axle separately. It helps tp go when there is low traffic on the station, otherwise they will do...

Anyone tow 8,000 lbs. with their 2021 Expedition FX4 with max towing?

The maximum allowable towing capacity is a relative term which in practice is hardly ever achieved, unless you have the right tires, weigh distributing hitch and only the driver and no cargo and trailer brake control. Towing anything near the limit with result in dangerous driving conditions...

    P0304, Misfire

P301 a lot if the time comes with P301 and 9 out of 10 times is one of 3 things PCV valve, perticularly the rubbet elbow next to it; easy and inexpensive fix. Next is the MAF sensor, you can carefully clean it only with MAF sensor cleaner as any other cleaner or s oil solvent will damage it...

    Gas mileage

I have a 1999 5.4 EB with 150,000 miles and I get right around 11 mpg and I drive it very gingerly, not a lot of hard acceleration and coasting when possible. I have yet to find a way to get better gas mileage. No CEL codes or warning lights and drives very nice but the gas mileage sucks.

What is going rate for OEM used wheels & tire combo???

Prices will vary greatly depending on type and condition of wheels and tires and also where you are located. I have seen them for as low as $200 and as high as $1,000. Good luck.

How to reset service engine light

Go to any parts store such as Autozone and they have code readers that will also clear the codes. Some are not allowed to clear codes and they will set it up for you but you have to press the button to clear the codes. This service is free. Better yet, get a code reader, the simple ones are not...

    U-Haul utility trailer

The towing vehicle should not be a problem, just be sure the tongue weight is where it should be. The issue will be the trailer and in what condition it is, particularly the tires. 55MPH is the normal recommended maximum speed when towing a trailer, it is up to you to determine what is your safe...

01 Expedition vacuum line to grommet help

Absolutely. My Jaguar X-Type has a leak on the oil pan gasket. Dealer indicated the front clip had to be removed since there is one bolt that is impossible to reach; quoted $3K for the job and the Tech. "advisor told me (off the record) to just place apiece of carpet in the garage under it and...

Not worth it. I gave you the reason why in the other thread you starter under 1st generation.

    6.0 powerstroke

I am confused. You want to replace the Expedition engine with a 6.0 Powerstroke? First, the Expedition has a 1/2 ton frame while the Powerstroke likely comes from a truck with 3/4 frame, so it look like you have it backwards. Second, you are replacing the Expy engine with a heavier one which...

"Thunder" 1998 Expedition Build Thread .... fixed pics!!

Very impressive build, look like you put a lot of thought into it and I will guess it is a truck you plan to keep for a long time. How much money have you invested on it? All those high performance upgrades don't come cheap. The only thing I did not care for was the front bumper. IN MY...

    Tires needed..............Highway mostly driven

I have Bridgestone Dueler H/T tires. I drive mostly paved roads/streets and the occasional snow and I bought them primarily for comfort on dry roads and they perform reasonably well. I bought them brand new from a Toyota dealer which took them off a brand new SUV that they upgraded to the big...

Car will not stay running after installing new mass air filter

You have to be careful with the MAF sensor. It can only be cleaned with MAF sensor cleaner, any other fluid/cleaner such as carburetor, brake cleaner or WD40 will damage the MAF. sensor Also, be sure to not touch the MAF sensor itself since the skin oil can affect it; mechanics typically wear...

    LT or P

Are you worried about the load capability of the Michelin tires? 2,535 x 4 tires is 10,140 lbs. which is more than enough. Your truck fully loaded is around 6,000 lbs, add the weight of the tongue which should be under 1,000 lbs. and you are around 7,000 lbs. The weight of the trailer is NOT...

I'm probably the only one who had this problem

Take a round plastic bead (kids seem to have them), make sure the hole is big enough to attach to the end of the spring, place some super glue on the hole and slide it at the end of the spring but make sure the end of the spring stays inside the bead. wait until is dry and no more problems.

    Brake fluid leak

Brake lines on the older Expys tend to rust. I had a similar leak and ended up replacing the line from the box to both rear tires. Lines were pretty rusted and I am lucky they did not collapse while on the highway. My front lines are not nearly as bad but I will replace them in the near future...

    Need help!

There is a number of things that could causing this issue. A code reader will give you a lot of information on what is causing the issue; without it you can swap parts forever and never really solve the issue. Most any engine issues will show a code and you can go from there. I had something...

    Strange Problem

Thanks for all the help. The issues have all been resolved as follows: Upon further inspection, I found the the passenger lower trail arm had rusted away and broke and was causing the fishtailing/drive-ability issues. Further inspection showed the driver side upper trailing arm was also broken...

Cut the Bumper or Get a Lift--Advice Needed

While there is no offcial speedometer tolerance, manufactures here adhere to the 4% rule which inidcates that the speedometer can read as much a 4% higher than actual speed but not lower than actual speed. So, if you are going 60 MPH, the speedometer could read 60MPH + 4% or 2.4 MPH or 62.4 MPH...

    Strange Problem

1999 Expedition 5.4L Eddie Bauer, 145,000 miles I have been having the P0171 and P0174 codes for while now. I checked and cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner, replaced the PCV valve and one hose that appeared frayed but the codes come back. Overall the truck worked OK although the fuel efficiency...
