I’ll start a spread sheet of info once I get back home, we’re camping now. Perhaps we can narrow down what the unicorn of Payload is
Still never got the answer to my last question though!! Do FX4 NON HD tow have HD springs or “lighter” springs? Hard to dig deep here on my phone.
I am conservative.. that's why I'm trying to collect the appropriate data.
I think I've mixed up the overall payload (shown in the yellow sticker) and what the Ford Towing manual states (see attachment). This verbiage is from the 2020 towing guide, which has been cleared up compared to older...
I think I have answered one of my own questions by looking back at old threads.
1. the rear axle for 3.73s is 4380 over the 4200 for 3.31s
2. There are two different springs (HD and non-HD) I haven't confirmed this, but potentially the FX4 does not receive the HD springs?
3. Still looking for...
So I'm in the market for a used 4th Gen that will ultimately haul our 26ft/6500lb travel trailer. I'm set on the HD tow package, although having some trouble finding one at a good deal, but regardless I have 2 questions out of interest.
1. Does the 3.73 rear end have a higher GAWR? I'm not...
I feel ya on this... (2) little kiddos who are OVER it and the Indiana corn fields, I've been known to push my speeds up there. Currently still using the F350 though...
Here's my 2 cents...If I was starting from scratch I think this is where I'd be.
1. Expedition MAX w/HD tow package - I'd do this over the older body style EL's from 2015-2017 - They seem to have a bit higher payload by 150-250 pounds, you get the Gen 2 EB + 10sp tranny, the MAX gives you a...
So what am I missing on the picture attached above? The diagram above is a different cooler than your referencing on the raptor? Is that not a small secondary cooler mounted basically at the front of the/bottom of the trans?
Fozzy - Is this the factory cooler, or the additional cooler the Raptors have? I keep going back and forth between Gen 3 and Gen 4 so trying to keep my facts straight.
Gen 4 has a cooler integrated into the factory Rad? Or a stand alone water to oil (trans fluid) cooler?
Checkout the Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S - 26' (could call it 25' if it really messes up reservations) - tons of room, mines 5150 dry, only down side is HEAVY tongue weight but that can be worked around.
Very interesting that there are two different spring part numbers, but it's not listed as part of the package. My BIL bought an FX4, and he is under the assumption it was good for 9K but I guess it may not be. He's pulling a 7,500lb camper with it too.. yikes.
Goofy how they do all this right...
So is it the rear axle rating way down on the Code 15 (3.31) axles vs. the 3L (3.73s)? Anyone got some white/yellow sticker pictures they can share?
@shane_th_ee & @Joshua Robison
It would be helpful to compare stickers, autotrader is hit or miss if sellers put up stickers.
I find it so hard to believe that 3.31s really keep this platform all the way down to 6k when the 3.73 is good for 9.2K and previous models could hit 9.3k in with the 3.31 gear and a 6 speed.
if I was in your situation I’d put LT tires on the Max, Sumo springs, get a good hitch, watch your...
My brother in law put some on his 2020 and said they made a noticeable difference in the handling with the trailer. I'll actually see him tomorrow so I'll get more info. Looking forward to your report back. Seems like a nice addition for the price.
