    Regular vs. Max

PS I also recommend the middle row bench so you have more seating options. They fold out of the way very easily so it’s no problem to get back to the third row.

    Regular vs. Max

We have three kids and the oldes (4 years old) sits in the third row like you’re suggesting. It works well since she can buckle herself now. The reasons to get a max are if you want to transport drywall/plywood sheets, larger gas tank, and longer wheel base for towing. The extra trunk space...

Does 4x8 Plywood/Drywall Fit in the back of a 2022?

Plywood and drywall are the exact dimensions to fit in the back of our 2019Max and close the hatch. I’ve never carried more than 4 at a time but more shouldn’t be a issue. I can’t see that the dimensions behind the back seat are any different in the 2022 max.

About to buy a 21 Expedition, but…rim size?

I have a platinum with 22s for the summer and 18” winter rims. The 22s are pretty stiff and handle nicely. They’re also great for highway driving and towing. The 18s are superior in town because of their compliance (pot holes aren’t so jarring) and lighter weight (acceleration is better). But...

How many owners out there with no major issues?

I’ve also never had an issue with our 2019 platinum max after 44k kms. The expedition consistently gets rated as the most reliable full size SUV and I plan on keeping ours another 10 years.

Tow Capabilities of 2018 Expedition / Navigator 4x4

You’d be fine, we had a 34’ airstream with our Expy. Contact CanAm RV in Ontario for advice if you want to make sure your hitch setup is right. They’re the foremost hitch experts on the continent in the opinion of many people, including myself.

    New purchase dilemma...

I bought on the last day of Ford employee pricing (September 30) in 2019 and got a max platinum with HD tow and 8 seats for $62,500. We didn’t do a trade in. That has seemed like the best time for buying new.

    towing frustration

Don’t worry too much about payload and towing numbers. Check out Can-Am RV in Ontario who has done a ton of research on towing. we used to tow a 34’ airstream with a Ford Flex with no issues before we upgraded to an expedition. The expedition has load of power, a very long wheelbase, and is...

How much can I really tow safely

A weight distribution hitch is a must but towing weight limits are just guidelines. We towed our 9,000 lb airstream with a Ford Flex before we got the expedition.

    Best 12V Tire Inflator?

I’ve had a few of the 12v pumps die unexpectedly or suddenly not want to inflate past 20psi so I keep a small bike pump in the trunk for real emergencies. It could take hours to fully inflate all four tires but you’ll never be truly stuck. Roadside bike pumps are $20-50

What is the best year Expedition to buy?

I’d say the 4th gens are improved in so many ways over the 2017s that they’re worth it. 10 speed transmission, aluminum body that won’t rust, better fuel economy, it’s a long list

    Platinum Towing Experiences

Speaking from experience towing a 34’ airstream all over the country, you’ll be just fine. Go for the trailer you want, the Expy can tow pretty near anything.

Positive Vibes Only / Expedition Greatness

We went all across Canada this summer and squeezed her into some incredible campsites. The Expy is the perfect tow vehicle for the renovated Airstream.

    Premium fuel for longevity?

I was hoping you’d show up, Loki. Thanks for being a wealth of knowledge on this forum!

    Premium fuel for longevity?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I also haven't been able to discover any evidence that premium fuel will yield any benefit other than increased HP and efficiency. So I'll stick with regular fuel except when towing.

    Premium fuel for longevity?

I used premium fuel for the first 8 months of ownership of my 2019 platinum max, mostly 91 octave without ethanol. Then I thought I’d save some money by using regular gas instead. Do any of the engineers on here have an idea of whether using premium gas, ethanol free gas, or any particular...

    Transmission coolant top up

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. The transmission monitor was showing very near the red line, which appears to be 120C. But it’s true that the minimum should still be fine. I haven’t had any issues on subsequent tows when I took it slower. I’ll continue to monitor and check with Ford if I...

    Transmission coolant top up

Yesterday on a long, steep climb while towing our transmission got close to overheating (118 Degrees C). So I thought I should pay some attention to the coolant. I believe the attached picture is the coolant and it’s at the minimum level. What do you recommend to use for topping it up?

After a few trips with 2020 Expedition ...

I haven’t towed any other comparable trailers with the expedition. But being only 9’ tall and with nicely rounded edges everywhere, I understand it’s a massively different experience than towing a fibreglass trailer.

After a few trips with 2020 Expedition ...

I tow a 34’ airstream (about 9,000lbs) and use 2H on all paved roads and most gravel. I only switch to 4H when reaction is an issue like starting up on grass/gravel and on super rough roads in the boondocks. I get 13-14 mpg when towing with 91-93 octane fuel. That’s about 15% better than with...

    What Could Ford Do Better?

True. Also, you should be able to open the interior cover all the way with one button press, not two. How often do you want it just halfway open...?
