The people working whether directly or via a vendor or service provider or support staff to build those new vehicles are very happy you do. Some folks (not referencing anyone on this thread) do forget that part.
This thread (scroll down to it) has video of a 2012 F-150 piston skirt failure and rebuild video. The 1st is how it sounds. Just like a Diesel, much worse than mine or the one posted on this thread.

Based on what JPExpedition said, I found it. Yikes!

Some 2013-2018 F-150, 2015-2018 Transit/Expedition, and 2015-2017 Navigator vehicles equipped with a...
Sounds exactly like mine even after warm up. I've put 21,000 on it since I purchased (had 29K) and it sounded like this from then. No issues with performance or gas mileage.
Do let us know if he finds out something is wrong with it.
I've got another 6 years and 75K miles on the extended...
OK same search as above with Toyota/Lexus SUVs. Notice the asking price difference? Sorted by lowest price 1st. You have to scroll down on both searches to where the actual results begin...
I have a 17 XLT that was either a fleet or rental. Very basic with cloth seats and no HD towing package. I bought it with 29,000 last year and am approaching 50,000. I like it quite a bit and have had no issues. I've towed a untilty trailer pushing 5 to 6K llbs and a camaro on a transport...
Flexpedition: That's my point. Shocking how much the value dropped in less than one year with a few hundred or thousand miles used. Plus that's advertised "asking" price, which you can usually get lower with negotiation.
Within another year and value drop, assuming no major flaws appear in...
I was asking if it was a physical change or programming. If it's programming I can still purchase an XL model and a tuner to get the same. If it's larger turbos or higher capacity fuel injectors or pump, then that becomes more difficult.
So does anyone actually know what the difference is...
That doesn't inspire confidence but you are covered against future problems other than the pain of having to leave it at the dealership.
I'm concerned that there is no part to replace a problem item.
Here is the brochure. I purchased via the internet at Flood Ford, electronically signed a contract and had the contract sent to me. I checked with my local Ford service and they can see I have the Ford Premium care warranty when they input the VIN...
Wow!
A couple of years from now, if all the bugs are worked out, I'll be upgrading to a used one. Just have to add trailer brake controller & I'm good to go.
I was just looking at this one for an asking price of $39,987 (Original MSRP $57,750). 4x4 Expedition Max - 3.5 ECOBOOST - LOCKING...
I'm seeing 2019s from $48K to $53K for regular length on Autotrader
Going to the Ford website they say starting at $52,130 for an XLT regular length. They don't let you select XL.
You are correct plus gearing. I read a little further in the article:
How did Ford’s smaller engine manage this trick? At least part of the explanation lies in its shorter standard rear-axle ratio, 3.55 versus 3.31 in the turbo 3.5. As that number gets higher it brings better acceleration and...
The sheer weight difference I assume is significant. Would the 7.3 HP/TQ overcome it?
There is something to be said for high power lighter motors. I think it was consumer reports or motortrend that showed an unloaded F-150 with a 2.7L Turbo was faster 0-60 than the 3.5L turbo. Plus got...
What is funny is that a station wagon or mini van would be perfect for 90% of the driving I do. If I didn't have to tow a nearly 6,000lb trailer a few times a year, I wouldn't need the Expy. It's just me most of the time and me with my 2 greyhounds the rest.
Good luck with the VW.
My friends pick on mine saying FORD stands for Fix Or Repair Daily. I had Cherokee and 2 Wranglers with high mileage that required constant little things to be repaired. Both ran great but the nickel & dime stuff was enough to sell them to someone with more patience.
You can keep anything on...
This being my 1st Turbo v-6, I had no idea what it was supposed to sound like. I thought mine was ticking loudly at idle. Then my neighbor had his civic si idling next to mine while cleaning off snow and it sounds nearly the same.
I wrote it off to a modern engine sound.
If it's a problem...
Not sure if this helps but I searched autotrader for 2018 or newer Expeditions and I was quite surprised to see a 2018 expedition max xl for less than $40k! Holly smokes the depreciation...
I have an Iphone. This does happen. I just delete the profile and pair it again. It's good for month or so. Then it repeats.
I haven't looked up how to see if my Sync software is up to date. I have the lowest end setup ford puts into the Expy. I may change it for an after market.
I have changed many of those out over my late teens, early 20s. Lets put a metal switch where the salt will get on it from the snow on your shoes melting.
No way I'm going back to carburetor, no cruise control and lack of AC cars. My dad said AC was for rich folks and we didn't need it in...
I saw this in the same article with the F150 transmission issue:
