I didn't have a transmission temp issue, it was the engine temp (coolant) that got too hot in my case. If you press the up arrow from the screen that shows transmission temp you will see the coolant temp guage next to speedometer. If you are seeing 223 for more than a minute or two you should...
I air up my rear tires to 50psi when towing my travel trailer since the oem tires have such a soft side wall and I'm running at max tongue weight so any additional stiffness helps. Even with a properly setup wdh, max air pressure on the oe tires makes a difference. It also gives me slightly...
An xlt with 202a (leather, heated and cooled seats ,HD tow sync 3 with navigation 4x4, power hatch, remote start) and 30k ish miles will be 32-35k regardless of location nationwide. A cloth interior non touch screen model can be had for less than 30. The first features are worth the upgrade...
Yes, I have the factory HD tow (included with the 202a package). I just made a 5 hour trip without the trailer on the same roads with the cruise set at 80mph and had no fluctuation of engine temps. The truck kept in 6th gear the whole time, outside temps were similiar. It seems when a...
That's kinda pricey. Look at the Ford extended warranties online through flood Ford or similiar. They are far cheaper especially if you just want powertrain coverage.
They are accomplishing similiar numbers with the 3.5 ecoboost twin turbo. I'm sure you would need the computer from a 6.2 truck and probably have to make some wire harnesses to make everything plug in. The dash cluster is different in the pickups.
Check radiator for clogging with debris or dirt. When the temp hits a certain point the AC will be disabled to reduce load on the motor. If the radiator is blocked it will overheat, also if you are low on coolant. Could also be a failed water pump impeller so no coolant is circulating. Could...
I bought a 17 XLT 4x4 EL with 202a and just 33k miles for 34k. No way is an 18 worth twice what I paid unless it can sprout wings and fly into space with its new tech. I've got nav sync 3, leather, heated and cooled seats, power hatch HD tow etc and it looks like a truck. I saw plenty 18s in...
My tow haul tune is specifically designed to reduce transmission temps by keeping the converter locked and downshifting rather than unlocking the converter and then downshifting. Though as I've said, the transmission never went over 208 and sat at 203 or 204 for 90% of the 6 hour drive.
I'm...
I have the loud roaring cooling fans as well with the AC on. I was also running premium fuel the whole trip and am running a 5* custom tow haul tune that is supposed to prevent overheating issues but that may just apply to the transmission. My return trip where it was 100 degrees I was going up...
I agree on the tongue weight. My trailer has an advertised dry tongue weight of 500 pounds. Loaded for camping (including full tank of fresh water) puts it at 930 pounds! I do have dual 6v batteries on the tongue and two propane bottles. That weight really creeps up on you. With a properly...
Well if a super duty could seat 7, I might be interested but until then....
Anyway, on the return trip I monitored the coolant temp using the guage in the dash. Climbing a hill at 65 would cause the temp to creep up quickly to the top of the scale. It was 100 degrees out so I would expect...
I did some reading on the F150 forums last night, evidently this is common since a system update in 14. The computer is too aggressively trying to prevent an overheat situation when one does not yet exist. This is why as soon as you let off the gas the temp Guage drops in seconds. There is no...
Has anyone had this happen while towing? I was pulling my 6k pound rv up to Yellowstone and was closely watching my transmission temps. They never went over 204, but nearing the top of the mountain the dash flashed low power mode or something. I switched the Guage cluster to coolant temp and it...
I thought dark car mode was originally intended for police vehicles and just prevents the interior lights from turning on when the vehicle is running and a door is opened. I don't believe it applies to when the vehicle is off.
Don't go by the 10k mile oil change interval, especially if you have the 5.4 or 3.5 motor. Many suspect the timing chain issues with the 5.4 are due in part to the long oil change interval allowed by Ford. The cam phaser system is oil pressure dependent as well as prone to sludging. Stick to...
Here's an easy mod good for at least 5hp. I ordered and installed "ecoBEAST" badges on both front doors in the same location as the F150 ecoboost badges. They look oem and unless you get close enough to read them you'd never know any better. I also added a "3.5L TWIN TURBO" emblem with red...
I'm making a 6 hour tow to Yellowstone this summer. I typically pull my 6k pound trailer with a full water tank and the tank is at the front. Since this adds a bunch of tongue weight I installed and configured my WDH based on a full tank of water. I'll have full hookups at Yellowstone and so...
Not only will you get better mileage by slowing to 65, but your chances of having a tire blow out or running into sway issues will also be greatly reduced. Just because the truck can pull the trailer that fast doesn't mean it's good for the trailer (or other people on the road for that matter)...
Nope, they were just trying to up sell you an expensive synthetic oil change. You can run longer oil change intervals on synthetic though. I run 5-6k mile changes on synthetic without issue. Use a 5w30, I prefer penzoil pure platinum plus.
Sadly there is not a switch to turn off the dome light. This makes drive ins a pain. You can disable the cargo light in the back, it has a 3 position switch on the light itself. After 10 minutes with the vehicle off ,the dome lights will turn off on their own as part of the battery saver, but...
Transmission temps should be in the 195-210 range depending on load, towing or not. The transmission was designed to run in this range and has a thermostat that prevents fluid from going to the transmission cooler until around 190.
Replace all 6 plugs for $30, you're certainly at the mileage where it could be beneficial, especially if you tow with the truck. Ecoboost is hard on spark plugs....
I think the 5.4 moved to efans in 10 just like the F150 with same motor. My F150 never made as much fan noise as my ecoboost but I don't recall if the F150 had a single large fan or two smaller ones. Yesterday it was 102 and those electric fans were roaring loud enough to be heard over the...
