Use 4WD Hi when pulling onto ramps and they won't slide.

    Am I overloaded? 28' Bunkhouse...

I like the "80%" rule. Stay within 80% of your max tow and you should be fine. That RV has a 7,745# GVWR which is over 80% and good place to start. BUT this RV has 2,090# payload capacity. Towing with empty tanks it's hard to imagine you'll load it down with 2,000# of gear. More than likely...

    Grinding noise driving

I'm not sure the noise while turning supports this, but when I had front grinding noise it was the front differential. And I could hear it in 2 WD.

Traction control light, wrench icon, nasty upshift

When I had an intermittent wrench light the scanner would only show the code while the light was on. It appears the codes from the wrench light are not stored. It took me a month to finally catch the light on and scan the code - pedal position sensor.

    Amsoil OE 5W30 in Ecoboost?

I use Kirkland full synthetic from Costco. IMO expensive full synthetics in passenger vehicles is a waste of money.

2014 Ford Expedition XL Adding Third Row

This is a long shot, but my power seats will not operate if the rear hatch is open and the doors are locked.

    Towing - mirrors?

I tried several types of towing mirrors until I found the Dometic Milenco Grand Aero3. They easily clamp on, vibrate little, and can be adjusted to extend as much or little as you need.

    Tow mirrors

I've tried 4 different towing mirrors. Best by far are the Dometic DM-2912. They are widely adjustable, shake little, and very secure.

Planning to buy expedition to tow a trailer, suggestion needed

Have you looked into hybrid campers? They are a little extra to setup, but for example, you can get a Rockwood Roo 183 that has 3 60X80" beds and a dinette sleeper. It's 4179# unloaded and about 6600# max. If I had that many camping I'd either go with a bunkhouse or hybrid and a hybrid is an...

Bikes and/or Kayaks on the roof???

I've seen people have a receiver hitch welded to the front of a truck and carry bikes there. Those who do this swear it's a great solution.

    WDH or not?

I'd always prefer to have it and not need it than the opposite. Finding out you need it when a semi passes you might be a scary way to find out.

Extended warranty, waste of money or worth it, 2017?

Front differential failed on my 2012, but I have an extended warranty. This is my first extended warranty and the company I have will only cover used parts and is fighting over everything. My mechanic doesn't really want to install a used part, but I don't really want to pay the $800 difference...

Extended warranty, waste of money or worth it, 2017?

If you buy from the dealer always negotiate. My friend is the GM at the dealer I bought from so they sold me an extended warranty for $10 over cost. The warranty paperwork lists the cost as over $1700 and I paid about $750. The dealer profit on the warranty I bought is usually about $1000.

    Towing questions.

I've heard many stories from people who towed once at their max capacity with white knuckles, then wound up at the dealer buying a bigger truck. Towing maxed out isn't fun. I've done it.

    2017 3.5 EB Oil Preference

It doesn't state that anywhere on the Shell website. It states just the opposite - that it's formulated for gas engines. https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/products/gas-truck-synthetic-engine-oil.html#read

    2017 3.5 EB Oil Preference

From a Q&A hosted online by Shell: The Shell Rotella Gas Truck product is recommended for use in gasoline pickup trucks and SUVs that face even the most extreme conditions including heavy hauling, towing, extreme temperatures and off-road because of its unsurpassed protection. We know that gas...

    2017 3.5 EB Oil Preference

I suggest contacting Shell and informing them they are spreading false information on their own product page: Shell Rotella® Gas Truck provides unsurpassed wear protection* that larger, higher-torque powertrains need. It outperforms conventional motor oils in severe conditions and is formulated...

    Replacement Hitch

Since every Expedition comes with a receiver hitch there probably isn't enough of a market to warrant designing and selling one.

    Maintenance Advice

At a minimum, do what is in the owner's manual. You're late on most of it, but I'd start with the plugs. They will probably hard to remove, but shouldn't break. 2011 doesn't have the two-piece spark plugs. I think they changed starting with 2009 model year.

    Regarding rubberized undercoatings

Well, when people put more faith in anecdotal reports than independent consumer organizations it's really not a debate worth engaging.

    Regarding rubberized undercoatings

Consumer Reports recommends against it, stating "cars today are manufactured with corrosion protection, which makes this added treatment unnecessary". I've also read any undercoating should only be applied when the vehicle is brand new to avoid trapping any corrosion causing materials under the...

    fuel filter expedition 2015

Not that I don't like a good conspiracy theory, but making bad cars would have the opposite effect. In the age of internet price shopping dealers aren't making near what they did on vehicle sales - most of their income is in service. If my Ford is a good vehicle I'm more likely to buy another...

    Poor Gas Mileage

There's no benefit to using premium gas in a naturally aspirated engine without high compression. Shell claims their premium has enough additives to "clean" the engine, so tank of that occasionally might be beneficial (like dropping a bottle of fuel system cleaner in).

    Traction options?

I believe the 3.73 is limited slip and standard on the EL version. I'm curious what drive mode you were in. In my experience, your tires are much of the blame for poor traction in snow. I haven't had my Expedition out in the snow yet, but my Kia Borrego had a similar system and did well in the...
