    4.6 2V oil pump wear

Yes, all the old guides were in tact. The new oil pump seemed to mount up to the block just fine. Alignment of the tube flange & pump flange was the issue. Oring damage or the flanges not fully meeting is my guess. Unfortunately, this truck is 2WD, so removing the crossmember isn't an option...

    4.6 2V oil pump wear

My plan now(unless someone tells me it won't work)is to try to drop the pan to get at the pump flange screws & hopefully correct the seal problem. I have two concerns....a couple of the pan screws are directly above the front crossmember(2WD), not sure I can get to them much less break them...

    4.6 2V oil pump wear

Got everything back together yesterday. I filled her with 6 qrts & did the pump priming procedure, but no pressure indicated no matter how long I turned it over. I've had the oil pressure sensor/switch quit working on me before, so I took the chance of starting it. No revving of course, but I...

    4.6 2V oil pump wear

I got the front cover back on without any trouble today, also the left valve cover. The right valve cover is still fighting me, or I should say the 47 or so pipes, cables, hoses, etc Ford decided to route on that side of the engine. Don't remember having so much trouble with the F150, but I...

Those guides look like my originals. Wish I had ordered the Melling set.

    4.6 2V oil pump wear

The original guides are metal with a plastic insert. The new are all plastic with a couple of metal bushings each. The new right side straight guide requires a new long screw(not included)up at the top bushing, the left side straight guide requires a new long screw(not included)at the lower end...

    4.6 2V oil pump wear

Another note on the oil pump. I noticed the old pump did not want to separate from the pickup tube after removing all the screws. I basically had to pry them apart at the flange. That should have been a red flag, but after spending too many hours trying to install the new pump it dawned on me...

    4.6 2V oil pump wear

I'm doing a timing chain replacement on my 2000 XLT & changing the oil pump while I'm in there. I noticed the old pump has nothing between it & the timing chain drive sprocket. There's definitely wear on the pump case, but not bad for 170k miles...... BTW, my timing kit was a Cloyes kit from...

    2000 XLT original shocks

Unseasonably cool day today, so got the valve covers & front cover off this afternoon. Hopefully tomorrow won't be too bad either, get a chance to change out the kit & oil pump.

    2000 XLT original shocks

I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I just got through replacing all 4 shocks for the 1st time on my 2000. Honestly though, I've never felt like the truck had any detrimental handling or driving effect from the old shocks. I guess we'll see if I sing the same tune after driving it with the...

    rear window gas struts

Where did you find yours? I replaced mine a couple of years ago, Amazon. They work, but when it's cold that top 2 or 3 inches doesn't like to extend.

Another engine noise post, sorry guys

That sounds like chain dragging on plastic to me. Timing chain tensioner is my guess, but rule out the exhaust leak first.

    2000 XLT holiday trip

A few minutes ago I was looking at an article on the STX Expedition they're bringing out for 2021. I actually like the idea of that feature package, but can't imagine getting one without massive incentive discounts. I think I've used the 3rd row seat in my 1st gen maybe 3 times in the 15 years...

    2000 XLT holiday trip

Forgot to mention gas mileage for the entire trip averaged out to just over 17mpg, not bad for the old 4.6 Triton(169k).

    2000 XLT holiday trip

Rather than fly from here in NE Texas to Birmingham, AL for Christmas with my daughter we decided to make the drive. That way we could bring the gifts, etc and not be tied to a flight schedule. It's a long drive(about 600 mi)for one day, but most of it is a beautiful drive. We just got a new...

    O/H temp LED 2000 XLT

I rec'd the module back from RTS yesterday(Friday). I sent it to them the previous week on wednesday USPS priority mail. That's a pretty quick turn-around. Hopefully, that will be a closed book on the console readout. RTS fee was $40 prepaid paypal. Priority mail flat rate box was $8 or so...

    Brake fluid flush

I had a couple of unopened quarts of DOT4 left on the shelf, so I put the pressure pot to use & flushed mine. The old fluid was dark green & had a few lumps in it. I did have to find the adapter cap for my master cylinder. Here's a couple of pics of the old fluid....

    Brake fluid flush

How often do you change it? I bought a pressure kit for my daughter's bimmer a few years ago(she since traded it away for a jeep). Might as well put it to use on my trucks. Just have find the adapter cap for my master cylinder.

2000 XLT need to deal with roof

Still waiting on paint to arrive. They said it might take 10-12 days before it ships out. It's been 12.

Uh oh.. :-( 2001 Expy 4.6 Transmission Failure

That sounds very interesting. I wouldn't mind going that route if/when the tranny goes on either of my trucks.

2000 XLT need to deal with roof

I'm not that familiar with anodizing, but the aluminum rack appeared to be coated with something like paint(peeling off in a few places), so a sanded it a bit, cleaned it, primed with rattle can etching primer, & then top-coated with flat black bumper & trim paint. We'll see how it holds up...
