I use an old Harbor Freight 1 1/2 ton on mine and it struggles but still works.
You should be happy with the 3 ton model. Be sure to check that it goes high enough for your intended purpose.
How about here only $49.99 with coupon 53805487 : http://www.harborfreight.com/500-lb-capacity-deluxe-cargo-carrier-66983.html?ccdenc=eyJjb2RlIjoiNTM4MDU0ODciLCJza3UiOiI2Njk4MyIsImlzIjoiNDkuOTkiLCJwcm9kdWN0X2lk%0D%0AIjoiMjA0MiJ9%0D%0A&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=5011a&utm_source=1002
I don't think a reasonable lift affects the safety of the vehicle other than it changes your C of G and in extreme situations could lean more.
In the end it all depends on your budget and your expectations.
Is the lift for 4 wheeling or mainly for looks?
If you want to lift and also plan a...
I agree that the gas crunch and economy has hurt SUV sales as a whole but the Expy has been losing ground faster than any of them. It's a shame to see as we all like them but the facts are GM (Tahoe/Yukon and Suburban) holds about 70% of the large SUV market and Ford Expy has about 16%.
Here's...
I was listening to a radio show hosted by Jerry Reynolds a well connected and prominent promoter of Fords and he is under the impression that Ford is not going to put any real money into developing the Expy any further. He says that it may even go away as a discontinued model soon.
If you...
I even tow my boat with overdrive.
In the hills, if you feel the transmission hunting (dropping down then going back up repeatedly) then you may want to take the OD off.
It is on by default every time you start your Expy.
P0136, P0156 are circuit malfunction codes for the rear O2 sensors.
P1131 is the front O2 sensor temp calc problem
P0141 is the rear sensor temp calc problem
The front O2 sensor sets/adjusts your fuel mixture and the rear O2 sensor checks for a difference between the F/R to confirm your cat is...
My apologies if I'm stepping on the rules but here's new ones for $155: http://www.strutmasters.com/Ford-Expedition-Air-Suspension-Compressor-assembly-p/-smxn-c-fe.htm
Trading a known vehicle for an unknown is always questionable.
The odds of a 4WD being driven harder in it's past life are greater than a 2WD.
4WD has a better resale value but you are stepping down 2 years.
4WD has substantially higher per mile costs to drive (MPG, maintenance, repairs and...
It could very well be wheel bearings but before I started throwing parts at it, have you removed the wheel and spun the hub or checked for slop?
It could even be your tires, have you tried rotating them to see if the noise is still there?
My earlier post was just a math calc and had nothing to do with real world results. Without knowing someone's driving habits etc, it's impossible to tell someone what their mileage results would be.
To me, any of these devices on a gas truck is pretty much just flash as there are very few things...
If you could increase your mileage by 3mpg, in 1 month you would travel about 1000 miles and save 11 gallons of fuel.
At $3.50 a gallon it would take about 10 months of driving to break even on the $400 price tag for the unit.
I know lots of people do this mod and I have a Euro switch in my Passat that allows me to do it but FIY, fog lights without headlights is illegal in the USA.
In the USA you have to light up the fog with the headlights before you can turn on your fog lights. It's a dumb law because in fog the...
