    IWE's

Just replaced both sides front hubs with new Timkens, only to find I'm still getting some noise. Found out it could be the IWE's, even though I didn't think the teeth looked bad when I installed the new hubs. When I test them and the solenoid for vacuum, if I find out they are bad, is...

    do i have 2v or 3v 5.4

A quick check- 2valves have black plastic valve covers, 3 valves are cast aluminum. 05-06 second gen first with 3valve, but I saw somewhere that a few '04 Expy's slipped through with them. F150's got them first, so that's where there's some confusion.

    Roof rails

The roof rails on 03-04 2nd gen are the same as all first gen. 05-06 are the raised "van" type as explained. I have these on my 05 but saved the channel rails that came on my '97 when I sold it. I'm glad I did because I also had the Thule adapters with their rubber covered square tube cross...

    Electric Supercharger?

Anyone actually use one of these things? Ford Vortex Electric supercharger Air Induction Kit | eBay Seems like snake oil for $169. Sure, there may be some slight boost, but you can only run it for max 30 seconds. When it's not running, it's just going to be restrictive like that other...

Fuel Filter Location and Misfire/rich fuel questions

Tucked up behind a plastic cover in front of the fuel tank under driver's side of truck. You will probably break off the two mounting bolts holding the cover if the filter has never been changed before. They rust solid to the speed nuts, a brilliant design. You can get new inserts from Ford...

    Fuel pump recommendations

Yes, that's what it would take, a return-less type pump. And thanks for all the suggestions, but thankfully, a pump wasn't needed. The thing that makes a pump return-less, the Fuel Pump Driver Module, was delivered today. Plugged it in, problem solved. Wrote about it in the earlier '05 XLT...

'05 XLT cranks over but won't start

Removed the old Fuel Pump Driver Module. Knew right away that was the problem. Kinda new to this forum, but I must respectively suggest this issue be made a Sticky. Better than that, hey Ford, HOW 'BOUT MAKING IT A SERVICE BULLETIN? This thing looks like so many that I have seen researching...

    Fuel pump recommendations

Still waiting on delivery of fuel pump driver module. But the old one hasn't thrown a code, so if I have to go to the next step and buy a fuel pump, I want to make sure I have the most reliable, best investment. I don't want to have to deal with something like this in the middle of the winter...

'05 XLT cranks over but won't start

'05 XLT Cranks over but won't start. This fuel pump driver module is subject to corrosion and electrical failure due to where it is mounted on the spare tire cross-member, according to sources over at the F150 Forum. Corrosion because of exposure to road splash and the dissimilar metal to the...

'05 XLT cranks over but won't start

Bingo. That wasn't the problem, but found it. Thanks Guys Duh, I also found it in the owner's manual later on. I also heard that a fuel pump "module or modulator", located by the left rear wheel and spare tire, is suspect and are always going bad. I might yank and replace it. Anything on this?

'05 XLT cranks over but won't start

I just used the search function with the term: "fuel pump inertia switch" or "inertia switch". I just don't understand how that comes up a blank. In F150's, I think it's in the front passenger kick panel. Same on 2nd gen Expy? Truck sat for two days. It's been kinda warm up here in NY. I'm...

    Need to Replace Front Hub/Bearing

OK, this is more like what I'm gonna get. It's eBay, but it is Timken, and much better than the Rock Auto price: Expedition 4WD Front Wheel Hub Bearing Pair TIMKEN | eBay

Front bumoper or bumper guard w. winch mount

One alternative is to get a front receiver hitch and then the receiver carrier bracket for the winch to plug in. Not the same coolness factor of having a permanently mounted hitch behind a front bumper, but more versatile in that it allows you to switch it to the rear hitch or remove it...

    Need to Replace Front Hub/Bearing

Replace Front Hub/Bearing I would think that would be too labor and tool intensive. You would probably need special pullers, a press and I think these are specially sealed bearings. Check to see if that kit is for 2 wheel drive Expy. This is new school, front drive technology. Not for...

    Need to Replace Front Hub/Bearing

I need to replace mine, also an '05. This is what I come up with from Rock Auto, but from Motocraft: RockAuto Parts Catalog, $222 and $254 a side. Got anything from Timkin?

    Well, its true......

2 valve is cake compared to a 3 valve ('05-'07)

    5W30 or 5W20.........

One of the reasons 5W20 is called for is for better fuel mileage, which is always a major topic around here. I use Mobil 1 synthetic, but I bought a big ass Earls engine oil cooler and will switch to the F250 14 row transmission cooler 'cause heat kills components more than viscosity numbers...

If the Expedition had the following engine options, which would you choose?

Because trucks are about torque, and I tow with my Expy, I'd go with the 4.4 diesel V8. And IMHO, once you have that, they react much better to chips and custom tunes than gasoline engines, so even at a premium option, if available, between the better mileage, longevity, torque and power...

    Mgp caliper covers

Nope. Just sayin' 20 bucks on eBay will get you into the cheese club. Without trailer brakes on my twenty something ft. boat trailer, slowing down hill, my front calipers would probably melt those things. Immeasurable on a street machine, but still, on our heavy trucks, you don't want to keep...

Roof Rack Information Thread 1-3 Generations

FYI: The channel type factory roof rack, with aero aluminum/plastic sliding crossbars, that came on first generation up to 2004 second generation Expy's, will bolt to the roof and interchange with the raised rail type of the 2005 and 2006 second generation. I'm probably guessing third...

    Snow & 4wd

I've used the Bridgestone Revo Duelers on my '97 year round and it was good in the snow with the LSD. No LSD in the '05. I have two sets of rims that the PO put crappy tires on with the '05. Some no name "aggressive thread" tire that didn't impress me at all at the tail end of the past winter...

    Transmissions used in all Expeditions

I got 215 thousand miles out of the E4OD in my '97 before I sold it. That was with towing boats and a tandem 16 ft trailer. The mechanicals on that Expedition held up way better than the body ('cept for exhaust manifolds and brake lines). Have to just see how it goes with the '05 I have now with...
