Awesome information. Thanks @Black and @AllBoostNoEco . I especially appreciate your notes about F-150 parts and what works/doesn't work on our rigs.
A couple additional notes about my intent:
- I'd like to avoid too much suspension lift (1.5"-2" max, ideally) due to our Independent suspension...
Does anybody out there go wheeling (off-road) with your Expedition EL ?
I've got a 2017 Expedition EL 4WD that I purchased a few months ago with the intention of towing and camping as my first priority (hence the long-wheelbase EL model), and off-roading with my family as a close second...
Hi guys. Bumping this thread as I tore my right rear fender trim off while off-roading this past weekend. Nothing crazy - Black Mountain Truck Trail in Idyllwild (4S01), rated 2-2 (Easy). https://www.trailsoffroad.com/trails/2093-4s01-black-mountain
Any ideas for good looking (and functional)...
Hi. Would any of you with off-roading experience in your 3rd/3.5 gen (2007-2017) know how far you can raise one side of the vehicle (e.g. while traversing rocky terrain) before risking rollover?
I have a lifted '96 4-Runner 4wd which I frequently take off-road. It took me quite some time to...
That's a bummer to hear. I have a 2017 EL Limited, so low beams are projectors. Thanks for the info. I'm going to try HID low beams to see if that helps any.
That's out of my price range. I'm going to start with these $40 kits and see how they do. If they go up in smoke or perform poorly, I'll consider the premium brand you're recommending.

Have any of you with EcoBoost 3rd gens (2015-2017) tried installing a winch on a hidden winch mount plate like Rough Country makes for the F-150?
Looks like this guy has tried it on a 2007:
... but the EcoBoost also has an Intercooler up front to deal with, so may be shorter on space just...
Have you guys replaced your headlamp bulbs with LED bulbs? Which brands have you had the best luck with?
I tried searching this forum for "3rd gen LED bulb" which only yielded 4th gen and 2nd gen results. Not sure how to search just this 3rd gen forum.
Has anybody tried fitting Raptor fender flares onto a 3rd gen Expedition (EL or otherwise)? I've got a 2017 Expy EL Limited with 20x9 Method wheels @ +18 offset (about 1" further outboard than stock) and 33" Tires (275/60R20). The outer 1/2" of the front tires rub against the inside of the...
Thanks Chris. Do you remember what "gotchas" you ran into? Which hoses were most problematic? How did you extend your steering linkage?

Hi. Bumping this thread. Has anybody tried a body lift on a 3rd gen? ...perhaps an F-150 kit adaptation? Can you share the part(s) that you used? I've got a wheel/tire combination that rubs the fender of my 2017 EL a bit. I'm hesitant to do a coil spacer lift as I don't want to lose suspension...
Best way to determine for sure which gears you have is to check the door sticker inside the driver's door jamb. Axle code 3L = 3.73 LSD.

Congrats Rosko! Setup looks great. Thanks for all the details about your situation. I bought a 2017 EL Limited 4x4 a couple months ago with about 48k miles (prior rental), Certified Pre-Owned (CPO). The 3.73 LSD and extra space were important to us. We're only towing about 3500 lbs for now (Rpod...
How large of a tire can we fit in the spare tire well underneath the vehicle? I've got 33" (275-60R20) and would like to go bigger with my next set of tires. But i'd like to keep an equally-sized spare in the stock location under the vehicle. Thanks!
Thanks guys. I'll likely pick up a '17 Limited 4WD CPO with 48k miles for $34k tomorrow. The miles are a bit high, but since this will be our vacation vehicle, I don't mind so much, especially upgrading from a '96 4Runner w/ 316k miles. :) The CPO warranty is nice (7 years / 100k miles...
Hi guys. Great info on this thread. I may be looking for a 2017 EL 4x4 Limited (or XLT with tow package) in the near future. I'll be towing travel trailers and doing some off-roading with my family, and possibly my extended family, so the Expedition seems like a good option.
My question: I see...
