    Flip-out Ignition Keys?

Man ynew cars just have a fob that you leave in your pocket. The car senses the fob when you approach, so you just touch a button on the doorhandle to unlock it. Then, once inside, with the fob still in your pocket, just press the start button anw away you go. These newer transponder...

    tire questions

If you have to air-down when you go off-road (like in the sand) then I'd be a little cautious about putting a too-wide tire on a wheel...you could pop a bead.

    air intake noise

My K&N way back in the day had a resonation at one specific RPM that was annoying...that's what I was referring to. It sounded like a honking noise. I can't recall the exact RPM, but I could feel it resonate, and grabbing it with my hand would cause it to stop...but I could feel the increased...

    air intake noise

Air intakes increase noise. Most of the resrtiction in factory intakes is due to sound-related measures.

I bet it was an underwear-changing experience as well

    Blew a plug

Yup...Only three threads hold the plugs in. As an alternative to buying a new vehicle, it may be far chealer to preventatively have the time-certs done to the other cylinders, in case they do decide to go. Keep in mind that many of these 5.4s never have plug blow-outs. But most engine...

Wanting to take the Expedition to the next level

Welcome home. Thanks for serving our country. I'd pull out the owner's manual and make sure that everything has been done. That's a good start at any rate. Search around this site, there's some good info. Your Expy should last a good long while. 147K miles isn't that much for these...

    Blew a plug

It's somewhat common on the early 5.4. Happened to me at 140K miles. A helicoil can be used, or a Timesert (http://www.timesert.com/). 2 or 3 hours to do the job is about right, depending on which cylinder it happened to. Many shops will tell you that you need to remove the heads. If...

loss of power when really hot

Sitting in traffic will make it worse. Even in the heat, if you can get a little bit of airflow going it helps prevent heatsoak. But high temps = teh suck for power no matter how you slice it. Things feel much worse with forced induction.

    Which Combination?

Put a Lightning blower on it. Or a better kit. All parts (other than blower and intake) are here: http://madenterprise.com/scparts.htm Troyer's blower is an Eaton M90 that is over-driven out of its efficiency range for a 5.4 even at 5psi. Won't push past 5psi of boost without blowing...

    New pioneer speakers

Another thing about the shark fin is that the tweeter isn't facing toward your ears...and high frequencies are very directional. Some tweeters can swivel a bit, helping to solve this problem...though the distance thing is still there. But ease of installation - and the high price of the...

    Tires and MPG

Load range E tires have sidewalls with a 10-ply strength rating. Their heavy-duty nature makes them a bit havier than tires with lower load ratings. I traded the all-season Michelin E's with BFG All-Terrain D's on my truck, and it rides a bit smoother now.

    Gotta vent, Friggin flat tires

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. I'd never had a flat up to that point, then two in a week. If your flats are the result of puctures, then I think it's jsut a fluke. But check all tires over to make sure you don't have a nail or something in any of them. If your tires...

    Tires and MPG

Definitely true..but at the cost of ride comfort. Like everything else, tires are a compromise between ride comfort, MPG, load capacity, NVH, etc. E's have super-stiff sidewalls...and hold a max of 80psi.

    cold air intake sensor

Good luck with that. There are much better ways to advance your timing that don't modify the signals going to your ECU. You get what you pay for. Google it.

Which Door Speakers is Everyone Using?

Keep in mind the distortion ratings of headunits. You may get 50 watts peak, but with 10% distortion, making it almost unbearable at high volume. While a 50-watt-per-channel external amp may have 0.10% distortion, so it will sound a lot cleaner at high volumes. I ran a 35 watt/channel...

    Deisels

The later 6.0 are OK, methinks, because the bugs had all been worked out as it neared the end of production. However, I'd only consider a bone-stock one (or one with an airbox and exhaust ONLY). Of the ones that I know of, the 6.0s that give the most problems are the ones that are...

Yeah, the shark fin is the interior trim piece tha'ts like a triangle. The outside mirror is on the outside of the shark fin.

    lowering revisited

My experience with Troyer was quite different. My truck barely ran on his canned blower tune. He blamed my install, said there was not way it was his tune. He wouldn't even look at the datalogging, and refused to alter my tune...a service that I paid for. Yet Sal at PSP put it on the dyno...

    Aftermarket Y-Pipe

Yup. Make sure the diameters are correct for the year/engine in your truck. I believe that one is good for the factory pipes to fit in-to. You'll need to have the shop fab up the 3-inch outlet all the way to the exhaust tip, plus a muffler if yo ugo aftermarket. It should be the same cost...

    Aftermarket Y-Pipe

You can get a Magnaflow collector/y-pipe like this one: http://images.autoanything.com/images/products/med/exhaust_systems/magnaflow_y_pipe.jpg ...then have a shop delete your pre-cats. Or you can gut the pre-cats. Or you can gut them and run a pipe thru them. Or you can put long-tube...

Dials going nuts at certain road intersection

So long as it consistently happens at the same spot, it sounds like electromagnetic or RF interferrence. Sometimes signals just converge at certain points, sounds like that's one of them. Carmakers test and try to prevent this, but it doesn't always work. Once in a while, you'll read...

    chips/programmers/tuners

That's for sure! I'd call first, but I'm certain the SCT will work. i ran it in my Expy, and a lot of Lighting & Mustang guys I know run SCT as well. Just make sure your tuner knows what he's doing. The SCT software is extremely comprehensive, controlling all aspects of your ECU. You can...
