There’s a rheostat located under your glove box which controls the fan speed. I replaced mine in my 98 Expy and fixed the problem. It was reasonably easy to do. It was easier to just cut and splice the wires and replace the resistor.
I do not believe it’s a fuel injector, if so you would throw a cylinder misfire code.
I had the exact same intermittent P0171 code on my 1998 Expy. It took me about 6months to fix. I did a smoke test and found a small leak at the hose connector to the charcoal canister located under the fuel

My cruise control stopped working and I diagnosed it to broken wires at a connector hard wired to the clock spring. Replaced the clockspring and everything works again. Could be a similar problem with your switches.
Same thing happened with my 98 Expy. I replaced the cables (purchased from Amazon) and the latch lift now opens like it’s brand new. The plastic stoppers on the old cables cracked over time. It took alittle bit of fiddling to remove and reinstall the new cables but you’ll figure it out. Good...
1998 replaced at 200k miles, the originals were fine but thought it was time to replace. Expy does ride better and I could tell a before after difference.
Wait for codes, they will come. In the mean time I would remove and clean your idle air valve (two bolts and 1 electrical connector) and replace your PCV grommet on the valve cover. They’re two culprits for rough idle, then wait for it to throw a code(s).
I don’t see why not as long as you replace the brake lines with the save diameter tube, I.e., 1/4 , 3/16, etc.
I have a 98 Expy and had to replace the driver side brake line due to leaking caused by corrosion. The galvanic corrosion was caused by the brake line touching the frame and creating...
I would try to reset the TPS see attached link. If that doesn’t work, I’d replace the TPS and continue from there. The cat codes could be a symptom of poor throttling / idling. Good luck...
Need to ask your brother more questions about the blown out spark plug. Did the engine overheat then blow? Was the spark plug just loose and vibration caused it to back out? Did he install it incorrectly? Cross threaded?
You could have a bad piston ring, or internal engine damage. Why did...
My cruise control works perfectly but there is no dashboard light illuminated when the cruise control is on. My memory is failing me as I cannot remember if there ever was a cruise on light or if the bulb is just burned out. Any 1998 Expedition owners have a cruise control on light on their dash?
I broke my drive side mirror 2 times and had to replace it twice. Ordered a new mirror, chrome , removed the door panel and replaced it. Has a small dc motor which controls the mirror position. Was easy to replace. You can do it yourself. I think it took me a total of 1.5 hours from start to...
I did not have any codes but had a loss in power. Replaced the EGR valve and Cleaned the intake manifold as deep as I was able to go without removing it. Full power restored to my ‘98 Expy. Your throttle intake looks bad I would clean it.
Here’s another video which may be helpful. I would start with checking for a vacuum leak and replacing old hoses. I’ve had this problem on my 98 Expy and thoroughly cleaned the throttle body and intake manifold, there’s already a post on that. Good luck and don’t fret, you’ll get it fixed...
Sounds like you might have a bad battery. I still have a 1998 Expedition my wife bought brand new in 98, had a similar thing happen to me and it was the battery.
It took about two months but I finally fixed mine. I replaced my gas cap (cleaned area around it), replaced purge valve and engine hose and still got the P0442 check engine light. I ordered a smoke test kit from Amazon $80 and performed a smoke test. Sure enough I found smoke leaking from a...

I had the exact same problem. Tail gate would not open. And the rear window would not open. I crawled back into the truck and removed the interior panel attached to the hatch. It was easy - pop off...
See the attached picture of my 98 Expy engine area. There are 4 screw holes but no part. Every engine picture I’ve seen doesn’t have anything bolted to this spot. Does anyone know what would go here?
I had the same rattle like noise but found it came from a loose oxygen sensor. Actually both were loose. I tightened them up and rattle disappeared. You need a special socket to tighten the O2 sensors.
