Like the title says I have an 03 with a 5.4 2wd 100k miles, It has just started something weird my wife says she thinks the tranny is slipping in OD.... When she gives it gas it kind of slips or studders, she says the engine seems strong but I checked the fluid looks good and doesn't smell burnt, had a tranny service about 30k ago. I am wondering what y'all think could be hapopening here, clutch pack? maybe a COP or bad plug haven't checked those yet will tonight though.

The woman is afraid it's gonna leave her walking, I know in my Lightning I had a studdering problem when I would get on it and I chased a bad coil pack for days. ANY ideas or advice will be appreciated guys!

TIA

What I hear is that these issues are usually ignition related like you are thinking. You are probably on the right track. Start with the simple stuff.

Darrin...Thanks for you reply!

UPDATE: I did the ole let the truck idle and pull each COP wire to see a change in idle...they all checked out OK. So now I am leaning towards a bad plug...I drove the truck and it seems to stumble every once in awhile when you are at speed, let off the gas and then back in the gas easy, it seems to studder just a bit but not every time and I know these things won't throw a code until it has misfired so many times in the same run time. DAMN...I look at my Lightning and I swear I hear her laughing at me going..."you chasing another bad plug or COP huh...buddy" they were nose to nose in the garage and I know they were talking to each other!!! LOL

Pulling a COP to find this won't always show it because the spark isn't failing at that load.

Yup, these problems do suck to find. I usually carpet bomb them with new plugs and COPS unless I have the time to replace just the plugs and swap a known good COP around until I find the offender.

I have usually been able to find the weak or missing COP doing this trick...you may be right but I'm hoping for a plug now...
