I am looking at an 04 Navigator. The older woman who owns it rarely drives it (she hates it bc it’s too big). So yesterday I looked it over-typical amount of rust, looked ok for its age, scanner revealed no codes and no incomplete drive cycles, decent Michelin tires, new battery. I took it for a short drive and it seemed fine. I decided to try 4wd-it seemed to engage as it did the usual 4wd thing when I turned rather sharply. So I flipped the switch back to 2wd and continued through the parking lot I had turned into. Well something was making a rubbing noise as the wheels were turning. It was not constant but it was a consistent timing that coincided with the revolution of the tires. It sounded like drivers side front-definitely front though. It did seem like it wasn’t rolling as freely as it should so I thought maybe a caliper had stuck. I drove it back about maybe 6 blocks. Neither front rotor was warmer than the other and I did not smell any hot brake odor. I know it is related to not being driven and something is seizing or not disengaging in the 4wd. Luckily the woman was sitting outside and heard the noise as I pulled in. She already hates the vehicle and now she knows the front end is making a noise. I totally lowballed her then left. I’m hoping we can come to a reasonable agreement but I need to know what you all think could be making the noise in the front end. I do most work myself but if it’s something I need to take to a garage, I have to factor in possible repair costs before making a larger offer. Thank you for any advice
