Since the day I bought my truck the sub has not worked. I've replaced every fuse related to it and still nothing. So I'm thinking it needs replacing and at the same time some upgrading. I need to keep the stock location as I use all the flood space in the back. Any suggestions? I'm looking for the best bang for the buck. I'm not worried about making my windows vibrate or the car next to me hear/feel it. I also plan on eventually replacing the other speakers and adding tweeters to the front A pillars.

I installed a Legacy LPW899 in my '97 a few years ago. Nothing extravagant, but brought her back to life having bass again.

I had a similar problem a few years ago, turned out I needed to replace the rear amplifier that's mounted next to the sub speaker. It's worked fine ever since. If you go aftermarket, it will cost more and the amp may not be compatible with the stock radio (I have the Mach with 6 disc changer) they are wired differently. I replaced the stock rear amp with one off e-bay similar to this:

99 00 01 02 03 04 Ford Mach Stereo Radio Subwoofer Amplifier Amp F5OF 18C808 AB | eBay

However, pull yours out first and look at the part number and compare the plug as some are different depending which audio system you have. I don't know if this is the right one or not, just posting for reference.

Good luck

mach sub

I have a 99 and the sub was blown. So I disassembled a bazooka el8a to use the 8 inch woofer. Same ohms fits OEM box pretty well. I used a new mounting gasket. But so far it works great and sounds great and I have been blasting it for months.... I'm sure anyone wanted to to this can get a bazooka el8a they were 50 new years ago. And seem to be perfect mach such replacements pm me if you need any more info.

JL Audio

JL Audio makes a premolded sub and amp combo that fits perfectly into the same area as the stock set up. Also they make a 8" micro sub that has a very small footprint. Had it in my Accord and it rocked, had a big punch. I personally went with all Alpine Type R 6x8's, and Alpine Type S 10" sub in vented box, an Alpine 5 channel amp and Alpine hde149BT single din deck. Sound great, well worth the money. Clean crisp sound, no distortion at all.

Great information! I'd love to upgrade my sub but I'm not will to sacrifice cargo space. 95% of the time I have my third row seat removed to haul tools for my job

I replaced mine with one from an Explorer I found in a U-pick, posted about it somewhere here, I'll see if I can find it.
