Hi Folks,

Here's my situation...

Just returned from having my oil changed and have discovered I have no brake lights. The 3rd brake light at the top works fine. The turn signals work fine. The tail lights work fine. The turn signals don't flash quick or anything.

Just my left and right brake lights do not function.

I do tow trailers, I noticed last weekend I had no brake lights on the snowmobile trailer, but I just attributed that to the fact that it was poor connections... same excuse everybody who tows trailers uses. :p

I did not try the emergency/4 way flashers to see if they work. I will check at lunch.

Alot of messages here are poiting to the multi-function switch in the steering column. Does this make sense?

Any assistance or ideas would be most appreciated.

Regards,

-Bryan

I am sorry to say that it is definitely the MFS.

I have checked my schematics, and it seems that the only way the REAR taillight brakelights work (not the high mount) is by bringing the signal from the brake pedal switch back up through the MFS, and then to the rear lights. These also work the trailer connections.

Please see following pic which shows the MPS connector in question (one is mislabeled). Since I can only attached one at a time. See my next post as well....

What the manual does not say to check for is loose connections on the MFS.

Anyway, hope this helps. Good Luck :)

Thanks very much rwinch. Are there any publications on the internet which give me detailed instructions on how to replace it? I have seen some short, quick ones, but I am looking for some detail. I prefer too much detail, then not enough.

I will do the test Monday. Unfortanately, I need to leave tonight to head up north, so it isn't going to get fixed today. Any rough idea on price for this MFS?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the cost, and replacement should not be too difficult, just take the covers off the steering column, and it should be clear.

You may want to get a Haynes manual, and doing a google search has almost always given me the info I wanted.
