2003 EB question on Rear AC

Having solved my front dash air blowing cold issue by fixing the vacuum leak, I have another problem.
Now the rear AC blows cold sometimes on my drive to town which is about 45 minutes, other time it starts to blow hot after 10-15 minutes. The rear AC is set on full cold fan on high for both the front controls and rear.
I never change the temp settings on front AC, always AC on and temp set at 60 with fan on high.
My question is: On the rear AC the air blend door default setting is for heat on?
Is this correct?

I believe the default setting for the blend doors and the coolant heater valve is heat. The ability to blow warm air at the windshield is required by law in most states, maybe a federal law.

For the rear you can get to the blend doors by pulling the removable tray from the top of the trim panel. Removing the trim is not difficult, but it is a bit time consuming.

Check the rear control panel on the back of the center console. Study both control panels. Both have mode and temp controls. When the fan on the overhead control is in the first position above off the rear control is active. The rear control now controls fan speed, temp and where the air comes out.
